Sorry to intrude and it's probably not the right thread, but just wanted to mention how impressed I've been at the way your club has gone about the off season.

Getting Neeld and then the signing of some quality assistants plus the way you've conducted trade week so far,;with no stars of yours wanting to leave (not including Scully) and attracting arguably the biggest name of the week, it seems like a complete transformation in the way your operating.

Kudos.

Cheers mate.

It's good to see the club have a bit of purpose again.

We knocked back pick 39 from the Western Bulldogs for Matthew Bate, we want a first rounder for him, no one will give us that so i guess he ain't going anywhere.

That's not to say that trade won't happen. I highly doubt anyone will part with a first round pick for him but, like someone else said, it's nice to see us playing hard ball.

It is good to see were not getting pushed around at the trade table.

I'd take pick 39, but not until a few hours before the deadline & only if they were matching Bate's current contract.

On Clark, he's 100kg now & looks pretty lean, if we plan to play Jamar & SME as ruck man & only plan to ruck Clark as a contingency, Clake can hit the gym a bit this summer. His mobility is a weapon so you don't want him to add 15kg, but surely if he's a permanent forward he can add 6-7kg that will help him monster defenders but won't take away too much pace

Jamar/Martin/Clark in the same team anticipation.

Is this the best ruck combo in the league? One in ruck, one in the forward, one roaming/interchange?

we must have been watching different mitch clarkes this year.

as a ff i thought he lacked agility and pace over 20-30 metres. I honestly think mitch clark is not a natural in front of the ball player he s best suited as a typical ruckman playing a kick behind the play. he is never going to have the toe to be a strong lead up player as well as a good contested mark like a cloke which is what we really beed.

It's not the money that I'm worried about here, it's the draft picks that we're going to be giving up for a 24 year old that really hasn't show that much.

At least we are in there trying to improve the list through other ways than just draft picks. We won't become a top 4 side through only drafting and natural (or coaching derived) improvement.

Why is Clark out of the picture?

There has been no change in situation, we're still waiting to see whether Freo will offer Brisbane a reasonable deal or not.

We are only ever going to get him if Brisbane doesn't get what it wants from Fremantle.

When did he say he didn't want to come to Melbourne?

All he's said is that his number one priority is to head home!!!

He's saying he is committed to being a Docker in 2012 and has knocked back the Melbourne offer, to me that sounds as if he doesn't want to play here.

To me that sounds as if he'd rather play for Fremantle, and wasn't that obvious throughout the whole process?

You're dreaming TPM. If he was happy to come here but after he thought about it he realised that he just wants to go home. So, let him go. No point getting a player who doesn't want to be here.

Is Harrington upto his job. First he wastes three days mucking arround with a mini draft, then goes after Mitch Clark, throwing stupid amounts of money, who even I could tell from the location of my little computer was never going to want to come to us.

Is this guy a dill or what?

Surely we could move this guy on quickly.

We wont be attracting any big names this year lads. We've tried to bring in that young big KPF but haven't been able to pull it off.

Neeld seems hell bent on landing one having been knocked backed with Dawes & Clark. Are we the club chasing Fev when Olarenshaw stated:

“It was surprising, the club that called.”

It would be a complete turn around on what the MFC have continually stated but ceratinly fits with what we have chased this draft week???

If no one comes in so be it. We'll be very well placed financially to splash the cash this time next year when free agency comes into effect, along with 3 first round picks.

And it certainly sends a message that we have money and we arn't shy on using it!

Everyone was waiting around for the minidraft to finish so people knew who had what after that all went down. The only trades that happened in the first 3 days were the ones that were already worked out, like Gunston. To suggest he wasted time is a little silly when he did exactly what he said he'd do: go in, try and get one but be aware of his limit.

Mitch Clark was a long shot, but he was doing exactly what Neeld suggested: try to find someone to fill the gaps in our list. He had to throw the money around because, as you suggested, it was a long shot in the first place so we needed something convincing.

At least we've done something this trade week, instead of sit on our hands and hope for a rain of gems to drop in our lap at draft time.

So am I right in saying that despite all this innuendo and speculation involving...

Warnock
Bate
Maric
Clark
Lisle
and others.....

Nothing has happened yet involving the MFC?

I have thought along these lines. I mean, list management at the Dees must be tough though. It's a really tough sell. We have been close to the bottom of the rung for a long time and have not enticed anyone of any note through trade week for a very long time. But until we start to climb the ladder, it doesn't matter how good our 'new' facilities are, we will not be attracting any big fish.

It's a tough time to be attracting big players as most clubs have stitched up contracts due to GWS and GC sniffing around. We have money to burn, an exciting young list and now top of the line coaching panel and still we can't attract anyone over! It is frustrating, but maybe it's time for our drafted players to step up. I mean, lookat Geelong, besides Ottens, all there premiership players came to the club from within. Once we start to play finals, we will hopefully lure a 'big fish' to the club to help us get that elusive flag. But we need patience over the next couple of years...
