Essendon players forced to take injections against their will

SOME Essendon players were forced to continue taking injections against their will last season - despite voicing mid-year objections

As the probe into Essendon's controversial supplements practices deepened yesterday, it emerged a group of players was told it was club policy to continue the "experimental" practice despite complaints.
Sources said players known to be deeply troubled by the injections were told they would continue as it was a team strategy.

I'm sorry I know this is Carlton supporters only but this is the funniest thing I have seen posted today LMAO !!!

Good to see Carlton fans enjoying this as much as Richmond supporters :thumbsu:
I'm not a mod but I welcome Richmond supporters on this topic when we have a shared hatred. A nice little deflection from round one. :D

One minute James Hird has no idea any of this has gone on, nek minnit he has witnessed the signing of the waiver forms. It brings to mind the Lou Christie song 'Two Faces Have I'.

Experimental injections against their will, christ now they're breaking Geneva Convention protocols.:eek:

This will end up at the Hague.
Bring back the days with Walls putting Shane Strempel in the middle and boxing on.

Expect nothing less from the club that embraced, rather than distanced themselves from Dean Wallis who bet on Essendon games. They still think their tish doesn't stink after rorting the cap and buying websites from Lloyd and Hird. Plus giving jobs to players using David Evans' advisory panel that places them at a company run by Ray Horsborgh.

If any of our players have done this, then we need to give them the Laurence Angwin pink slip and say goodbye.

It's almost comical now with new reports coming out from journos left, right and centre, all trying to gazump one another with the grandest scoop.

Would make for quite an interesting media and social study.

These are just allegations, but the Essendon supporter reaction is on par with their pathetic defense of Hurley wanting Hungry Jacks.

We should have announced Scotland's penalty this week and let him play in round one. No one would have noticed.
If only Mitch Robinson had waited one more week - could have saved himself some cash.

Just trying to wrap my head around this Essendon thing.

It appears as if (worst case scenario, but looking more likely by the day) that anywhere of up to 40 players on the primary list may have been administered a prohibited substance by a rogue 'Sports Science' guy via a calculated program off site injections.

The penalty for which is a mandatory 2 year ban. Reduced to a 1 year ban if the players can establish that they genuinely had good cause not to suspect the substance was prohibited.

This is huge.

Tens of millions of dollars lost revenue huge.

Yep Mal but it really depends on what was being injected, that aside they have certainly bought the game into disrepute, once the dust settles heads will roll...at a minimum

As numbers said you couldn't even make this up

Add to that the association with criminal organisations that are potentially significantly more powerful than those that have been associated with the Blues.

Looking forward to Underbelly: Essendon coming to monitors and televisions near you in 2023.

The 'substance' is the key thing here. Also the 'method' used. ASADA only allows non medical treatement related injections of no more than 50ml per 6 hours - or you also face a 2 year ban.

If any substance or method taken or used is found to be prohibited by ASADA, then no excuse is going to save the players who took it.

Those players will face mandatory bans for 1-2 years, and then almost certainly sue the bejesus out of the EFC with AFLPA backing. As will club sponsors and so forth. Coupled with additional loss of revenue from loss of sponsorship and match day revenue for EFC should they be unable to field a side, and they face financial obliteration.

Also, any club official involved (even unknowingly) also faces similar ASADA bans.

After ASADA finishes up with them, they then face possible additional sanctions from the AFL if Vlad feels so inclined (draft sanctions and a heavy fine). Although fair to say, that would just be flogging the proverbial dead horse by the time it reaches that stage.

From the grim body language and judging the response at EFC, it appears as if they have indeed uncovered information that leaves open just such a possibility, so as 'worst case' as the above sounds, it also looks not far fetched at all.

They are, quite literally, shitting themselves.

Around Christmas time I was hating the off-season and pining for another 12 goal Fev fest in the Y2K cup. Then we have McChin's druggies and now Essendopes. It is easily the best off-season ever. Just need Dusty to get on the piss this weekend and get suspended by Premiershipmond and I will be totally sated.

The best thing is the AFL are not in control. ASADA are nobody's bitch and the AFL just has to hope they have small fingers. One thing not emphasised is that ASADA do not move quickly (the Casey player was investigated over 9 months) and so this could well hang over Essendon until the middle of the year or later.

If I was a player involved I would be talking to Slater & Gordon already and try to get some money out of EFC whilst they still have some. Surely sponsors will start walking within days

This is all I can think.
They come out clean in the eyes of ASADA they should get a fine for the shit they have caused and sponsors will walk no doubt, who wants to be linked to this?

At very least with will cause issues for them and be a distraction through the season.

One more thing that doesn't add up is if they are clean and know it why being it up a week out from nab cup? Little to close to the season to not cause issues.

Either very guilty or very stupid and possible both.

They were forced too. The Media found out and was going to go public.

They quickly got on the front foot, and opened the books before it hit the papers in an effort to look like the good guys and possibly minimise penalties.
