Not so sure about that. Their academy players are pretty impressive and frankly Brisbane, GC, Sydney & GWS should be allowed to try and develop these zones without interference from Eddie and the AFL. The AFL needs to focus in its own backyard because the game is going down the toilet in Victoria.
I believe the academy idea is a good one and would agree with you. But I believe that a part of the problem in Victoria is that we have nothing like it here. Imagine if every club in Australia had their academy zones. We're finally getting to the point where the NSW and QLD zones are producing some of the best talent in the national competition. All four teams are encouraged to pour resources into it because it ultimately gives them access to some of the best young talent in the country. The Victorian teams do not have that. As a result there really isn't nearly as much incentive for the Victorian teams to put as much effort and energy into our own development programs and leagues.

Six of the top 24 players in the draft were academy players. That's a quarter of the top talent in the draft. Only the Gold Coast Suns missed out. Aaron Francis (West Adelaide), Callum Ah Chee (South Fremantle), Wayne Milera (Central District) and Ryan Burton (North Adelaide) were also top 24 draftees but come from SA or WA (football rich states) bringing it to a total of ten. It's not as though the other 14 players would be going to the one club - there's 10 Victorian clubs.

If you don't want the game to suffer in Victoria then you need to give the ten Victorian clubs the incentive to help the game develop instead of leaving it to the AFL and hoping.

Feel like we could use some positive news.

Well done Sauce and co at the Crows.
Really well done by the Crows. Just terrific to see that sort of thing...
Through my work, I occasionally deal with the families of children in that situation and I'm a cancer survivor myself.
But it's small things like a kick of the footy with one of your idols that can mean the world to these kids, it can make all the difference when keeping a positive, optimistic outlook, which is just as important as any medication or treatment...
Really great work by the Adelaide footy club.

The reality is the AFL want the 4 NSW/QLD teams to do well (especially GWS). I think they may look at it at a later date but with all these players getting "homesick" lately they are happy for a big chunk of the best draft talent to go there. AFL areas like the Riverina shouldn't be academy areas and the AFL know this but don't care at the moment because they need GWS to succeed.

On Fox Footy, they actually have Trent Cotchin as part of Superstar Month replay schedule, they are taking certain liberties with the Superstar label, I'd say there is only 3 genuine superstars in the comp right now, Dangerfield, Fyfe, and Buddy Franklin. There is also former superstars, but now bonafide champions of the game (Pavlich and Nick Riewoldt) and potential superstars in the making (Bont, Hogan and Paddy Cripps etc)

I'm so glad someone brought this up... If "superstar" is Tokyo, Trent Cothin is London.... If he's a superstar, I'm an astronaut!... Obviously there won't be any games from any Septembers in this series.

At least change the title from "superstar month" to "average at best three minutes"

Way to devalue the word "superstar" FOXTEL.

Dangerfield... pft is this a joke?

0. Garry...
1. Buddy is a hack.
2. Fyfe in a league of his own at the moment
3. Dangerfield is in the Jelwood, Mitchell class these days and not close to Fyfe (or pendles, or Gary)
4. Pendlebury anyone???
