Small forwards typically reflect how well the team is going.

Adelaide are a better team so Eddie is a better player .

He can still disappear when it gets hot like he did with us. They play the Hawks in two weeks. I expect they will rough him up and he'll struggle.

Fortunately Adelaide have some other avenues to goal.

How many 50 goal seasons did he have with us? (I do already know the answer).

He's far more consistent these days. It's not to say he was no good with us, he very much was, but I think he's improved since he left.
50 goals is a little arbitrary.

Yeah he's consistent but he was with us longer for a larger sample. Take a selection like 2010-2012 when he was at his best with us and compare it to his time with Adelaide and he is half a goal better per game, 1 and a half disposals better per game with a far better forward set up.

He was a little more contested at Carlton, a little more inaccurate at Carlton and this I put down to the forward line and lack of space so he was leading out to the pockets. Inside 50s similar, more.clangers at Adelaide, more contested marks at Carlton.

Simply he is the icing on the cake for Adelaide. He was the cake for us.

Still it would be good to still have him! I still enjoy watching him.

Gerard Whately saying Eddie Betts was not the player at Carlton he is at Adelaide and gushing about the Rioli like vibe when he goes near the ball.

Shits me. He was electric at Carlton and statistically just as good for much of the time. The only difference was we didn't have a dominant tall forward so Eddie was often the go too man whereas he gets fed better at the Crows.

**** the ignorant arseholes who ignore what they don't have an affinity for. He was ours and we appreciated him. History revisionists.
I'm with you ODN. History is being rewritten here and his form at Carlton criminally underrated. His highlights reel was so long it needed an intermission. He played small, he played tall, he took screamers, he outmarked key defenders, he kicked freak goals, tackled like a bulldog, and gave off as many as he kicked. He was a star at Carlton but was let go prinicipally it seems because "you dont pay small forwards that sort of money."

Loved him then, still love him. May his glorious career carry on and on.

So tell me ODN - why did we let him go for peanuts? hmmmm?

I will NEVER let the rage go - what was allowed to happen at Carlton was a disgrace an absolute DISGRACE!!!!

They have Buckley as head coach
Love it, fat head Ed let his love for Buckley mess up any chance at a dynasty they had built.

Every year the pies have gotten worse and just when I thought they might make a slight improvement this year I hear that they have only been in front for 40 mins this year.

Not that we've done much better but they were hyped we were told we had the worst list in the AFL....

Enjoy maggies. Back where you belong

Because he dropped off the pace in 2013. Lost a lot of output. Then it would have required a payrise to keep him. Most here would have found that unpalatable given the season he just had.

Crows timed it all perfectly and I can't help but think he was gone a long way out.

Should NOT have let Eddie go

What we have lost vs gained is beyond poor list management
It was flat out TRAITEROUS and led to a domino effect of exits - just the stupidest most disgustingly amateurish period we have had to suffer for the last 20 years- and that is saying something!

Gerrard Whately lost the plot during the EssendONE saga- he is now a sensible sounding nice enough Geelong supporting lazy short cutting researcher commentator because anything sensible wasted with fat slobbo sitting next to him buffoon - the fact that there is a different show now running before him and fatso- is testament to teh fact that it has become a show about these two 'personalities' - haven't watched these two morans for three years now - since EssenDONE saga and Whateley's biased BS.

WOwee do i sound angry pilled up or what? :p

Not the point though JAB. Giving him a payrise on the back of an inferior season, by making allowances for a 3 week injury and a 3 week suspension and theorising he doesn't like the coach .... while the coach is still there .... assuming that has affected the other 18 games we played that year, would have been ridiculed.

Sure if he came out and played as he has for the Crows, that ridicule would have subsided the next year but we were getting worse so he would have stagnated with us at that time.

Yeah and Gibbs is great value because he had a good season in 2014 and deserved his new contract...sorry not a buyer of this type of management logic. You let the baker bake - but you don't let the baker burn the bakery down because he says he is a baker or some such arrant illiterate uneducated and ego maniacal nonsense.

People deserve to be rewarded for medium term performances and people like Eddie Betts deserved better than "sorry mate - we need the loose change you want for Daisy Thomas"

Eddie Betts was always a gun at Carlton especially under Ratten, but MM didnt value him or any of the indigenous players and forced him and Garlett out the door. I am not sure if MM was a racist or was still burnt by Leon Davis big game failures but had a belief that all indigenous players went missing when it got tough.

If you dont believe me, have a look at Collingwoods list.. Only indigenous player on it is Travis Varcoe, none have been drafted to Collingwood for a very long time and it is a theory that i am sure has been passed onto Buckley and probably Maguire. We did draft Clem Smith under Malthouse but i reckon recruiting had been taken out of his hands by then.

Eddie might have wanted to go home, but i have no doubt if enough love was shown his way and we compensated him to his value he would have stayed and done exactly what he is doing in Adelaide but for us.

Ancient history of continued poor list management. Now been fixed with the SOS appointment, I don't think Eddie regrets his decision somehow.
