Unbelievable spoiler - rarely out marked
Always seemed to have time to make the right decision.

Under rated by only the ignorant
I reckon Doull's rep suffers with younger football followers because of his personality - no muss, no fuss - and as has been pointed out, he played that way. You see highlights of KB kicking goals etc, unfortunately Doull is usually seen losing his shit when that bike tried to swipe his headband, not breaking down opponents week after week.

I actually see parallels with Corey Enright, a player who is regarded by a lot of Geelong insiders as the best at the club, yet in a decade who is going to know about how consistently excellent he was, or how many highlight reels will he make?

I would put Peter Dean in the same mould as Doull, was an outstanding defender (well for me anyway) and wasn't that fuss with doing media. I love the way he went about his role, I also admire McKay because he study as well as being a pretty decent defender.

Bruce Doull is a player that makes a player like Royce Hart seem to me to be a touch over rated - in that being a Carlton Member/Supporter I only ever saw Royce Hart play against Carlton and when Bruce Doull played on him Doull always had his measure. ;)

Feel the same about Wayne Carey when SOS used to blanket him.

"This weekend needs to be the last time I go to a footy match hoping my team gets walloped," Schwarz said.
I was a big fan of David Schwarz. I thought he possessed a shit load of courage to get back from as many devastating injuries as he had to be the player that he was. However, after reading this article I've lost much of the respect that I had for him. By stating that he hopes that his own team gets walloped he's done so much more damage to his club than he realizes. Not once from 2002-2007 did I ever want Carlton to get walloped. Not even when it became clear that Denis Pagan had to go. I felt shit for the club, felt that change was necessary but not once did I want us to get walloped.

Fair dinkum that is the worst article of quotes I have witnessed in a while and I don't say fair dinkum often. .. Read some tripe on this board before directed at our coaches and the like but to go into a game hoping to lose or get "walloped" is a disgrace. .. If I were a Melbourne fan I'd be diigusted with how my club has been managed over the last 5 years but I'd be hoping the players extracted a digit and started putting in an effort and we turned it around, no matter how much I disliked the coaching staff or other. ..

If they wanted to go short, they used Bruce... if they wanted the ball in the centre of the ground on a Navy Blue chest, they went with Southby...

Still reckon that Southby should have gotten the gong for full back of the century
Mmm Southby.

Wouldn't we like a 20yr old to walk into the club(especially after winning a Premiership) and thenbe the B&F the next 2 year as a full back. Never quite the same player after the Balme king hit.

Shame we didn't get a F/S out of him given the sportswoman his daughter was.

He was cooked by the end of 86 but would have been so good for him to have made one more year for a 5th flag.
And he ran into a rampant Jason Dunstall in the GF.
Always interesting to hear Dunstall talk about that game - was a massive Carlton supporter growing up and one of his favourite players was Doull. Putting it simply, he had to look after himself that day.

True story...and this is only gonna make you feel bad...but my brother met him at a charity event my sister-in-law organised and he will tell anyone who listens that Kouta is the best bloke in the history of blokes.

My bro was pretty leathered, went up to the Greek God with some stupid opening along the lines of, 'I just wanted to say thanks for all the great memories' and Kouta ended up chewing his ear off. They were reliving all the games, 95 GF etc, Kouta introduced my bro to his wife, the works. Always take your chances, you never know when they'll come around again!!!

Legend. His knee injury in 2000 still makes me...:(
That was a "where were you when Kennedy was shot" moment for Carlton supporters. Pretty much changed history.

I was with a bunch of Blues fans at a mate's house at Lennox Head and it was a delayed telecast so we had a media embargo till it started at 10.30 or some such ridiculous FTA boondocks non-AFL state time. Carlton had I think won a dozen odd games straight and Essendon was undefeated and it really was a heavyweight clash of two great teams in red hot form, with Kouta head and shoulders the best player in the comp at that moment. The game was in the balance when Kouta's knee went. Essendon won the flag with only one loss for the year. We have never been that good since. Nor was Kouta.

Sigh........

Thats the second time I have seen you post that word...

I dont think that is the place that you think it is.

If you are talking about the spiritual home of Carlton... it's Princes Park... if you are looking for some sort of cottaging hookup, Princess Park might be the place you want to go.
Sorry gents my slip up I do apologize:oops:

Buddy reportedly being offered $10M over 6 years by the Giants.
How can he say no to that?

The "Box Seat" Tigers :D

Tiger pitch for Buddy?

THURSDAY'S Lance Franklin news bulletin sees fresh development on two fronts.

Newly-named AFL Legend Royce Hart has urged his former club Richmond to bring the Hawthorn superstar to Punt Road.
He told the Herald Sun that the Tigers need a second key forward to ease the load on Jack Riewoldt.
"(Richmond) are on the right track ... but they still haven't quite got the balance right," Hart said. "I couldn't tell you who has played centre half-forward (for Richmond) this year.
"They need to pick up 'Buddy' Franklin. Why not have a crack at trying to get him if he is available."

Tiger pitch for Buddy?

He can't.

Nobody can say no to that!
I have a theory how it might be possible;

Surely his earning potential post-football would be significantly greater were he to stay a Hawk for life? By potential, I mean that those within the Melbourne community that are powerful Hawthorn people - take your pick - would certainly be more affable towards Buddy after his career is done if he goes on to win another 2 or 3 flags with the club. I'm certain that people out there with money and power would love to be in the 'Buddy business' if he stayed, rather than if he ****s off to GWS for 5 years so he can go out and yell at women in bars in relative anonymity. Massive short-term gain, no doubt, but at what cost?

I thought the same about Ablett. An insular place like Geelong looks after its own. Whilst I'm sure no-one will begrudge GAJ if he ever returns, I'm also sure that there will always be a 'you-took-the-money-and-ran' mentality amongst a great deal of the community. Look at Lingy; killing it with pubs/restaurants etc and is a living god down in Sleepy Hollow. Will now make a fortune for the rest of his life.

Sure, Buddy can invest his cash and lie on a beach somewhere forever, but really, he will be rich either way...which life would you prefer as a footballer? 100% contesting for flags whilst loaded now and probably LOADED later, or LOADED now and MAYBE getting another crack towards the end. Actually seems like a no brainer to me.

If I were him I would rather take the guaranteed money. $10mil guaranteed? How can you knock that back for post football "earning potential", key word- potential?

There is no guarantee after football that he can make that sort of money, even with the conections he makes.

A bird in the hand..

Fair enough...different outlooks I guess.

The way I see it...you can always make more money (and it's a helluva lot easier with a couple of million in the bank) but you can't always play in more premiership sides.
