On thinking, might be some sort of gesture to close the board for an hour or two as a mark of respect to him and his club, his supporters and loved ones. Can't think of much else we as supporters here can do to show our level of concern and sadness. Just thinking.
I disagree. The main board thread is the best we can do. Everyone has been spot on (except the trolls of course because the dregs of humanity love to rise to the top on these occassions)

Shocking news. Completely and utterly devastating.

Really puts everything into perspective. An injury is shocking. This, a tragedy.

Condolences to John's family, Port Adelaide and everyone who knew him.

RIP.

Would not mind that at all - if not now then on November 19 (his birthday). BigFooty John McCarthy Day November 19.

Not that it is relevant, but the Flamingo does not appear to have any balconies so we are talking ramps, landings, or rooftops. As I said it doesn't matter, but as somebody who is dead set paranoid about my loved ones on high rise balconies, this really struck a particular chord with me.

Can sympathize with this. I'm dead set terrified of heights.

I think Keith Thomas mentioned in the press conference that it happened at a different hotel to the one they were staying at

No, they weren't staying at the Flamingo. Media reporting it as having happened there. There are outdoor concrete balconies above the lobby area. These would be public areas about 10m up and the end of one would overlook their south driveway. This would make more sense than someone else's hotel room which would ask some serious questions about other parties.

Again, I feel weird discussing possibilities which is why it is hidden away here, but human nature experiences shock and then comes the how and why stuff I guess. Won't bring him back unfortunately.

'The project' mentioned he may have been climbing a palm tree.
This was apparently the location.

Open area with low railings in the hallways of some lower level rooms plus palm trees. Would make more sense if it was outside a room, sitting on a rail or something. Doubt I would be climbing a palm tree at 5am after a night out. If I did, doubt I would get far.

Matthew Campbell arrested at Crown Casino
