that information would've been good in the op.

Oh really.
I didn't start the thread in order to have BF jury decide whether or not a fine is valid based on the details of the "offence"... I mean, obviously some idiots can't help themselves but i didn't have them in mind when creating this thread.
This thread was directed towards my kind of posters. I.e. the ones who agree that jay walking fines are nuts.

Seems a bit silly to expect everyone to agree with you, nicky. It's a forum, with a wide spectrum of opinions. That's what forums are for- especially a board like GD.

For the record, what happened to you sounds pretty excessive in terms of punishment for the 'crime', but if you start the thread here, don't be at all surprised when you come across some who aren't especially sympathetic.

Surely this thread was just to have strangers on a football forum reinforce your own self pity that you broke a law and got caught? I can't figure out the point otherwise. Is it an ironic thread?

It is open, however, to everyone.

I walked at the crossing and crossed the road when half the time the man was red.

Then you deserve the fine.

That kinda bullshit is dangerous.

Do you ever drive in the cbd?

People like you hold up traffic, and make a difficult task unnecessarily harder and more dangerous.

Red man = dead man.

No sympathy from me.

I'm sorry that you interpretted my post that i expect everyone to agree with me. However i do agree with you that that would be silly. I'm not going to repeat myself but if you are genuinely interested feel free to read my post again and hopefully the second time round you will understand it better.

No worries Doss thanks for the advice but as i said, you misunderstood my post.

I jay walked just the other day. Bunch of cars waiting at the lights, some fella walked so I decided might as well go too.

I don't do it in busy cities though. It's suicidal even if you think you have 360 degree fly vision.

Nicky did it in the worst spot in the cbd. Ive nearly hit several people there.

Its an intersection you have to dash through just to make the run of lights. I regularly go through the yellows. At legal pace, but its a split second decision and 100s of people are crowding the kerb half a metre away.

So many idiots cant judge time/speed/distance.

Im usually all for breaking silly traffic bylaws, but never in Melbournes CBD.

A lot of people (opposite the station) tend to start crossing the road on the green arrow for cars to turn left onto Flinders St from Elizabeth St.

and you expect everyone who posts to agree?

look i just think you were unlucky to cop the fine when there are heaps of people who do the same. they pick and choose their targets.

i once got fined for jaywalking out the front of Flinders street station crossing to get to the 75/48 tramstop.

Tram was there, i try to make my way around people and decide to walk on the other side of the railing and hop (safely mind you, it's not like i jumped in front of a tram) straight up onto the platform, instead of waiting behind the throng of people and missing my tram.

Not only do the cops on the platform not let me get onto my tram (i was cutting it fine to get to an exam as well), but they write me up for it as well.

I appealed and it was duly thrown out. asswipes

Someone at the CBD cop station has decided to conduct a sting operation. What a fking idiot. I'm in two minds about writing a letter to the police commissioner outlining the waste in resources, waste of tax payer money and more importantly the PR disaster this is.... Whoever thought this a good idea should be sacked.
The very same Cop station that wasn't interested in people on the street being spat and urinated on from the top of a carpark.
Good to see they have their priorities straight!

You should have left home earlier.

Jaywalking only seems to be a problem in Melbourne so I'm glad to see the cops there cracking down on it before an epidemic of jaywalking reaches the rest of Australia, that really would be a disaster.

I'd have no money at all if I got fined every time I jaywalked. Quite often there's about 10 or so police manning an intersection in the CBD, I've seen them pull up pedestrians there before.

You should send your letter to the Herald Sun instead, might get more support there.

I see a few near misses with trams on Swanston St (especially near the tram super-stop near Melb Central) but it's not near a police station so haven't seen a crackdown there in over 5 years.

I spent YEARS crossing that road, jaywalked a lot. Though being the very observant person I am, was well aware when the cops did from time to time sit there waiting for jaywalkers to fine, so I on those days I waited for the lights, and held onto my money. :)
