Good to see the law finally being upheld by those responsible.

I never slow down for people crossing the road away from the designated safe areas (crossings). I actually speed up and swerve at them even if they are off the road. It's an ignorant arrogant act that should have its consequences.

Same with cyclists who aren't pushed right up into the gutter or in their lane.

as a cyclist (not a fixie too!) i always remain aware of cars. when at lights i will hit as far leftside as possible. and if cars are wanting to pass, give them as much space as possible.

I probably wouldn't run you down then Pete. I'd still hurl "*******!" out the window as I drove by though.

ok look. j walking is illegal yes? we know the risks involved and punishments associated with me. just like parking fines. upon receiving one we bitch and moan, but in the end you are in the wrong

How illegal actually is it? Case in point, I jaywalk like hundreds of others across St Kilda road right in front of the Police complex, a road with 6 lanes and dual tram tracks, I see cops jaywalk across it all the time. Why no fines?

Is jay walking only punished with fines in the CBD? When the state decides it needs a bit more $$?

I hate the arguement that "oh you know the law so dont break it" like that is some kind of above logic moral compass.

Just coz its the law doesnt make it right/wrong.

What a ******* load of shit.

You shouldn't be penalised for not crossing at a crossing.

What an absolute ******* joke. I'd write a letter and complain.

I'm thinking about doing that. It's just a ludicrous fine...

And funny that someone should bring up the fb status update topic, as i did let my fb community know about this and i got feedback from people around the world who all suggested that they've not heard of anyone getting a fine for jay walking.

You should. It's ridiculous. I'd be almost tempted to write a smart arse letter saying you've been a safe walker your entire life and barely ever bump into anyone or cause any disturbances in your walk, but at the same time that would be rejected, so best to be more serious.

my friend got fined for pissing on a tree somewhere in the outback (i.e. the middle of nowhere).... He's French which makes the stupidity of it even more outrageous to him because Europe is nowhere near the nanny state this country is.

Yes that is the one.

You've got a massive area in which you can walk legally then. it must be 20-25 metres wide. How on earth did you manage to jaywalk?
