Meh, I'm sick of people bloody bagging the O'Halpin boys, esp Aisake, who has yet to play a senior game ..

They are still worth persisting with, and btw we are still in a development year, and I would like to think Aisake will get a game sooner rather then later ..

O'Halipin (Setanta) actually is probably better placed as a foward really, he is a good strong mark, and his kicking is improving ..

The question is if we had our time again would we have taken the punt on these two? i think not but was worth a try. How much longer should we persist with them, taking pride out of the equation?

I think they've probably got till the end of next year or they're gone, if injuries/fitness hadn't played a part it probably should've been this year.

Setanta isn't in our best 22 and wouldn't have got a game this year if it wasn't for injuries/ suspension. Aisake seems to do ok at the ants but not getting a gig at senior level in the last few years with our ruck division speaks volumes- despite his lack of fitness at times.
I really hope they can develop further though and get full pre seasons under their belts because i love the big clumsy men!

If it wasn't for injuries and suspension?

Had he not been unwell pre-season Setanta would have been first picked in our defence based on 2007 form.

Had he not had OP, Aisake would have debuted last year after the Hawks debarcle.

Short memory eh?

Time to let em go at the end of the year...Never going to be great players...One cant even get a game in the ants firsts...

Been an interesting experiment, thanks for the memories...Bye Bye, time for some decent additions at years end...Real footballers not try hards

Meh I think they are worth keeping, esp as we have another Irish lad on our list, and I think it's good to kinda establish a rapport with the Irish community both here and in Ireland, and that we can actually maybe get more/better of the young Irish guns to come play for us (esp if they know how well they are treated at the club) ...

BTW We're still in 'development' mode, and our 'premiership clock' is still some time away from ticking

Kennely did win a G/F

Collingwood and Sydney are yet to prove anything they have developed two running midfield players. Kennely is streaks ahead of Clarke and do we need to point out the omission of clarke earlier in the season. As parrot has stated his skills are letting him down horribly and unlike last year teams are exploiting his lack of skill and knowledge of the game rather than ignoring him altogether![/quote]

Injuries to Thornton and Hartlett as well as Hartlett's suspension have meant he's got a game IMO. I believe he doesn't really have a role in our back half, can u play T bird, Waite, Jamo and Setants all in the same backline?? Yes he was good at times last year but Jamo (may be a little biased here!) has improved a heap and is now a more required player.
He is definately not a forward atm as he gets lost and confused very easily.
Will reserve any further judgement on Aisake as i havent seen him play

I was at last weeks Ants game and asked Jammo and Grigg why Aisake wasnt playing. They said that he was being eased back through the 3s after injury. He has not been dropped due to poor form

So the fact that he was already in the side when Hartlett got suspended has nothing to do with it right?
The FACT that he played 22 games last year even with Jammo and Thornton fit etc suggests you are also wrong.

So you don't see a role for him.
J. Brown kicks 3 goals in 10 mins on Waite........then 3 goals in 3 quarters on Setanta.
Setanta has done jobs in the past on Chris Grant, Barry Hall, Rocca, Thompson, Roughead, Richo.........he is nearly 2m tall and very quick, can take a grab, shows very good awareness and is growing by the year.

I repeat.......had HE not been unwell pre-season, HE would have been the first picked in our backline each week.

Jammo isn't big enough to play on the Gorrillas and is going to be much better suited to the second leding forward......as he showed on Bradshaw last weekend.......notice despite his dominance at no point did Ratts send Jammo to Brown.;)
He is definately not a forward atm as he gets lost and confused very easily.
You have absolutely no evidence to back this claim.

I would argue that in the time he has spent forwards he has shown great goal sense.......remembering the Swans game and others last year where he sharked goals.
In fact from round 10 to 22 last year he averaged a goal a game from the ruck/forward pocket as we tried to plug gaps.......despite him never having played either position.
Also in the Pies match this year where his lead got the opening goal. Later in the game he showed great awareness by ducking out the back of the pack as Grigg won the footy, got hit with the pass in 15m of space, turned and drilled Fev on the lead. I don't think any of us will forget his little foot tap up to himself then the dish off to Bentick vs WCE 3 weeks ago.......pure magic (if only Bentick had kicked it)
Lost?
Pfft. :o
Will reserve any further judgement on Aisake as i havent seen him play
Good policy.:p

I think we should also cut our ties with Gibbs at the end of the season ..this experiment has not succeeded ..he was worth a shot but we need his spot for somebody else. And don't get me started on Kruezer

Setanta was crucial today. Did no one realise how much we got smashed when he went off for 10-15 mins today injured? He was critical to our set up.

He was good today, back to his previous year's form.
Big difference is he knows what he needs to do, whereas in previous weeks he hesitated too much.

His new career best game. Pav kicked 4, but he got 90% of their forward 50 delivery, and one goal was a pre-game umpiring gift. Setanta beat him in the area and at ground level, plus provided a lot of rebound. Pav and several FReo players need to stop staging for frees and start getting the ball. :)
