His new career best game. Pav kicked 4, but he got 90% of their forward 50 delivery, and one goal was a pre-game umpiring gift. Setanta beat him in the area and at ground level, plus provided a lot of rebound. Pav and several FReo players need to stop staging for frees and start getting the ball. :)

Another goal he kicked was in the midfield from a ball up where Setanta couldn't follow him in.

i played great today

you all need to cut me a break

i am the spirit of Carlton

I AM SETANTA

didnt realise he talked like someone from the days of conan lol

tbh though i think hes not that bad of a player, and far from a project failure. hes that versatile for someone who has had such a short time in the game, settle him down in one position. i liked the look of him last year i think it was, when he was taking the bigger forwards like lloyd etc.

big athletic talls are hard to come by, youve got a mature bodied one in setanta. keep him down back and your backline doesnt look all that bad.

i cant comment on aisake, havent seen much or any of him.

Get rid of him...the project has been a dysmal failure ..lets cut our losses and show him the door .

Thank god some of these morons on here have nothing to do with our teams selections and player management . :o

Exactly, thank god you're not in charge. Go and watch how much we struggled when he was off the ground injured.

Think he is a player who could go either way. My opinion is that with consistent confidence he could become one of the games best running half backs. I thought pre injury today his confidence was as high as it has been in ages. Perhaps he got fired up by the ridiculous decision pre the first bounce. Whatever it was he was so good until the injury. He was very decisive and did all the right things imo.

After the injury I felt he lost confidence and whilst still being ok was not as sure and decisive. One Carlton supporter next to me started bagging him big time in the second half. Just was so quick to get stuck into him. Tried to point out to this guy how the injury had affected his confidence but he just didn't want to hear.

I believe Setanta has got great heart but is open to getting discouraged very easily. Think the club has a great talent but really must find ways to help him to feel secure within the side. If this can be achieved he could very well be part of a premiership side one day.

The last 2 weeks have shown his upside and even though he was beaten by both opponents they are 2 of the elite and he was not pantsed.

He is still learning the game so as Carlton supporters we have to realise that he will have some bad games but we have to just accept it as Key postion defenders are hard to find and he will turn into a good one.

It is not fair to compare to blokes who have taken the irish path because he did not come from a gaelic footy background and the likes of Clarke who have succeeded immediately were 5 foot 10 inch running players. Stynes who was about the same height as Setanta was sent back to the VFA after 2 years and did not become a good player until he had been playing about 5 years.

Setanta was absoultey brilliant yesterday and a real reason why we won. In the last quarter he and Waite set up numerous rebounds, beat their man constantly, and pitched in around the centre - Carlos was vital to our win. In fact, i think it was his best game he's played for us (along with last year against the doggies).

with a full pre-season in him in 09, i really think he'll be in our best 22.

I'd get rid of some of our muppet supporters before i got rid of someone like Setanta...

These are the types of people who would prefer to see us lose for the rest of the season just so we could get another priority pick.

Setanta (and Aisake) needs another full season and preseason into them with some extra work from the development coaches and then next year will be the year that they really shine.

We have put to much into them to just write them off because they have had some poor form from a lack of a preseason.

If you are going to whinge about them doing nothing, how about you start up a thread stating that the Judd experiment hasnt worked and we should be looking to offload him at the end of the year...

I would prefer to watch someone who loves the club playing rather than someone who is only at the club for the money.

(and I notice that Lapp_46 is rather conspicious in his absence atm)

Setanta has shown enough in the last 2 weeks for us to keep persisting with him in the backline, his disposal is AFL standard, his decision making is shaky at times.

Against Freo I think he had kick in duties on 1 occasion & made a mess of it.

Another summer in the gym & he's the best option for the gorillas.

yeah that kick out was scary. it wasnt coz he stuffed it, but we were too slow to even present or zone, so he had to play on a kick long.

he lost weight at start of the year due to groin problems, i doubt he will try to bulk up more coz of that.

but one thing he should do is to continue to back himself and go hard at the footy. His effort to the ball is never in question!!

but i would like him to learn to spoil a little better. he needs to put body on body in the air when spoiling, rather than trying to go the arm swing & spoil. part of the effective spoil requires you to put your body on your opponent!!

Great to see Ratten single out Praise for Setanta and others in our backline on the weekend - Bower, Waite, Grigg. Thought they were crucial but probably not as praised as the efforts of Stevens and Bentick

I've been one of the wobblers regarding the development and viability of Carlos. Yesterday he was just terrific (sorry Wallsy). Punching, blocking, flying the flag. Fortunately I was late to the ground by 5 minutes and missed his goal-gift before the bounce but so what? We have to be aggressive and courageous if we want to develop and prosper. And anyone who thinks he can't kick can only see his awkward style. If all our players took as much care with their drop and aim we'd be miles better off. Well done big fella. Just love your work ethic and passion.

PS: Go watch his reaction when the final siren goes. Future.

Didn't see his game yesterday, but thought he was brilliant on Saturday arvo. :thumbsu:

How good was his celebration when the siren went? He went absolutely *******, it was a bigger reaction then a Grand Final win.

He went running and jumping and fist pumping all by himself at centre half back. It was mental.

No question, he's a lovable lug alright. :thumbsu::):D
