The depth in the documentary regarding race relations really allows you to understand the ruling later on.

The police brutality of Rodney King was fresh in the mind of the American public. Seeing another black guy get the attacked by police (even if it were justifiable) would send the town into a riot

The case has been solved, as in O.J's murder trial.. The murder of Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman hasn't been.

The murder IS the case. OJ was just the suspect who was found not guilty.
