Ok, i think we have a good chance here. Sydney are always unpredictable on how they might play, and if Ruccuito and Mcleod fire, i think we are a chance. Ruccuito troubles sydney with his long accurate kicking, and mcleod can trouble anyone.

In defence i think we are solid, Hart,Bassett, Robran have to be consistent. Up forward, allthough weve copped alot of critisizm, we are preety good up there, with options such as Perrie,Welsh,Vardy,Richardson,Jarman,Hewitt,Mcgregor and a few others.

I think expect a big year from Burton this year, after his last game for the crows last year against Carlton, was preety good. Ayresy will have to give him the license to jump!

My tip crows by 25 pts!

These things are very hard to predict, but we do very well against Sydney, both home and away, so with any luck we might be able to win. I think Roo will have a point to prove this year, being Captain, and hopefully he'll be able to rally the troops successfully this year.

Burton's injury doesn't seem to be coming along too well. He really needs to play at least one pre-season game to get back into the flow.

He looks like a Caufield cup winner trying to run the Miracle Mile. As you said QT hopefully they'll let him off the leash this year.

Contrary too most crows supporters, I'm still more concerned with the defence than the forwards. The flair and rebound that was there a couple of years ago just seems to have been squashed. Again, maybe Ayres was just too stifling in his coaching style last year.

Crows by 12 points.

As usual we will have big problems trying to counter the superior skill of the Crows.

Recent record favours the Crows quite decisively, however the Swans have a knack of beating you guys - when you least expect it.

I agree with Spogs, your backs lack the rebound and general zip they seemed to have a few years ago, Smart and co getting a little old now perhaps ? They may struggle against the likes of Gooes, O'Loughlin, Fitzgerald and Ahmat.

Your forwards are still looking good - Vardy and Jarman have both ripped us apart in recent clashes and Welsh will come to the SCG as a largely unknown quantity to us. However I feel your forwards lack height and genuine marking power, whilst our backline is a pretty solid outfit, Dunkley, Nicks, Matthews, Saddington, Seymour and Crouch comprise one of the most miserly defenses in the whole AFL and also our short ground has a habit of catching visiting teams out with Centre Half Forward almost a redundant position on the pocket sized SCG.

It will all come down to the ruck and here ther is little to seperate the two teams. Burton is carrying a slight injury at the moment, but so is Stafford - it will really depend on which of these two will be able to get the upper hand.

I don't want to predict a result just yet, but I will say that you guys better be ready to play when you come up.

Looking forward to it already - can't wait actually.

cheers

Everyone has covered the game qutie well, it should be a cracker. I don't believe too much separates the teams and it should be reasonably close. As for our knack of beating Sydney, all I seem to remember is that 118 point thrashing in 1999.

BSA, it does matter that the Centre Half Forward is almost a redundant position on the pocket sized SCG, because we don't have a decent centre half forward anyway

(Apologies to Robran etc.)

with my boy at centre half back - we'll be right!

We have an excellent record at the SCG so it should be a terrific match, with the mighty Crows winning the game!

I always look forward to Crows v Swans games, we have had some interesting stoushes over the years. I njoy the fixture because it gives me a chance to wind up my wife, who still has a residual affection for the Fruit Loops ...

1991 Round 18 FootyPark
Adelaide 16.22 118
Sydney 19.8 122

Innaccuracy cost the Crows dearly, although they had the balance of play on the field. Adelaide probably lost its last chance to get into the finals in their debut season with this one. For the Swans it meant that they would find Footy Park a bit of a happy hunting ground in years to come.

1993 Round 14 SCG
Sydney 12.10 82
Adelaide 18.18 126

Sydney had beaten Melbourne the previous week, our only victory for 1993 and the only victory to beak up two of the worst losing streaks in modern footy history. A tough game with only 17 fit Crows at the end of it. Mark Viska had to stay out on the field and propped in the forward pocket with a broken ankle. Some excellent coaching by both coaches, especially Graham Cornes who managed his fatigued and worn-out squad with great skill to nurse them to a fighting win.

1994 Round 18 Footy Park
Adelaide 10.15 75
Sydney 13.9 87

Crows ambushed by the hapless Swans on their own dungheap yet again. Crows really needed this one to give themselves any chance of playing in the finals - they had had a most friustrating year after the triumphs of '93. Sydney were playing much better this season but had still only 3 wins to show for all the effort and were still in bottom place. A most insipid display from the Crows late in match when they just appeareed to lose interest and a pleasantly surprised Swans walked away with the points.

1995 Round 20 Footy Park
Adelaide 13.15 93
Sydney 22.7 139

Back for a repeat dosage, Adelaide were well out of the finals race by this time but still seemed to completely out of sorts against a Swans outfit that were starting to gain a little momentum. Around about this time we us at the Swans felt that we may not have been the best around, but the so-called 'horror road trip' to Footy Park held absolutlely no fear for us.

1996 Round 1 Footy Park
Adelaide 20.10 130
Sydney 6.4 40

Just goes to show you can't read too much into Round 1 results. Sydney were complacent as we believed we and we alone knew how to win at Footy Park. Were never in it - the Crows completely blew us away and looked a million dollars in doing so. Didn't work out that way in the end though - Sydney went to play in the Grand Final and Adelaide missed the finals yet again.

1997 Round 8 Footy Park
Adelaide 22.12 144
Sydney 8.7 55

Adelaide finally buried the Swans at Footy Park jinx for once and for all with this huge win that consolidate their early season form quite nicely. For Sydney it probably meant we would struggle to match the deeds of '96 from here on.

1998 1st Semi Final SCG
Adelaide 14.10 94
Sydney 10.7 67

Adelaide's late season fitness drive paid off handsomely on this rain soaked final. Losing Cresswell in the first quarter did not help but really the Crows superior fitness and skill blew the Swans away. Vardy with six stood out for the Crows and it was Paul Roos last game of league football.

1999 Round 20 SCG
Sydney 25.9 159
Adelaide 5.11 41

Adelaide must have eaten something nasty on the plane or something because they were like sonambulists in this game. Sydney needed this one to get back into the form heading into the finals and they dealt with the Crows accordingly. Adelaide once again failed to make the finals this year and Sydney, after a frustrating up and down season limped in and were thrashed by Essendon in the Qualifiers.

2000 Round 12 Footy Park
Adelaide 14.14 98
Sydney 7.6 38

Swans hung there untill halftime then McLeod and a burst of brilliance from Jarman sunk them without a trace. A very dissappointing result for us as we always go to Footy Park with an air of optimism - not on this occasion though. Unlike most of our losses, we didn't throw it away - we never looked like winning. Result was especially gawling because the previous Thursday on 'The Game' Jarman politely referred to us as 'Swanettes' - then proved it on Game Day by almost single-handedly tearing us apart !

grrrrrrr !!

cheers

Well done BSA, is that done by memory?? I can recall most of those games, a few wins either way. I remember especially watching on t.v. the game at the SCG in 1993, when Robran went up for a mark and came down with a broken leg. Viska had a very good game despite his injury (as you noted) and we were good enough to pull away at the end. Hopefully we can repeat the dose, but with a few more fit men

Going by the Crows last effort against Sydney at the SCG, maybe its best the Crows stay home that week.
