No, I'm not making it up. It's a hot rumour here in Adelaide at the moment. Apparently all the international journalists were talking about it at the Games.

I heard a couple of years ago that one of the members of the 4*200 mens gold medal team that did not swim in the final could be the person concerned in the rumour. He also did not swim the 1500m in these olympics, but medalled in the last.
