had to leave leeds with all these french midfielders being brought in for the season, but a move to serie b is a massive risk and i hope it pays off for him and his club gets promoted to serie a.

Okon was never going to get another game at Leeds whether we had French midfielders on loan or not. He is simply not suited to the English game. The only time he was ever useful was when Venables had him in front of the back 4, played a good game against Chelsea but that's about it.

uh huh:rolleyes: did you catch the socceroos v ireland match champ?? his passing and tackling was as good (if not better) then anyone else on the ground. no one is expecting huge things from him anymore as he is certainly in the twilight of his career. sensible career move paul, wish ya the best.

You are joking aren't you. If not I fear the good reputation of roo supporters football judgement is on the line.

Okon was crap against Ireland, worst performance I have seen from an Australian since ... well ... his last one.

i am interested to here how you rated lazarides' and chipperfield's games if you think that about okon's game. sure he wasnt BOG and didnt by any means dominate, but he wasnt half as bad as you are implying.

My thoughts on the game are all in the thread devoted to it.

Besides you seem to have missed the point of my initial post. (Hint: it was aimed at a particular supporter who adjusts his perceptions of Leeds players the second they leave the club.)

No doubt that comment was directed at me. But why was the comment about Okon directed at me, where have I criticised him?

BTW, if the players who left Leeds do so amicably, as Nigel Martyn did yesterday I don't have a problem with them. Robbie Fowler was struggling to get games for Leeds, he was sold, fine, no problems there. But it's players like Kewell and Bowyer who were orchestrating moves away from the club for months or in Bowyer's case refusing to sign a new contract, that upsets me.

Where's the Okon comment firstly?

Dacourt, whinged because he wasn't playing. Why can't players handle their demotion with some grace and work hard to regain their spot? Nick Barmby is doing that and has got a lot more respect from the Leeds fans for it.

Woodgate, jumped ship. Still seen as a hero in many Leeds fans eyes, but he didn't have to go.

Mills, I complained because he was lashing out and his teammates on the weekend. What's the big deal about that?

O'Leary, great manager who ended up losing the dressing room and writing the book about the Bowyer/Woodgate trial which probably lead to his downfall. But he made Leeds United one of the biggest clubs in Europe during his tenure.

Dacourt although engineering a move away from Leeds in other ways was a bit stiff after the Venables 'I'll drive him to Italy myself' saga. Firstly Olly had been arguably man of the match in both the Newcastle and Man Utd games, then he finds himself on the outer. He then makes a few comments to a French newspaper in French, pretty much saying "we can do better than this." I know this because I sought out the original interview myself and had a read. Of course the British press in their 'translation' come out with something along the lines of "Leeds are a disgrace etc." Venables doesn't bother to investigate and Dacourt is pretty much finished at Leeds.

Where did I say you have made a comment on Okon, I questioned whether someone would now realise how crap Okon is. Given someone has at some stage or another belittled the qualities of Kewell, Bowyer, Rio, Dacourt, Woodgate, Mills etc etc etc I think it was a fair question to ask.

Dacourt, whinged because he wasn't playing. Why can't players handle their demotion with some grace and work hard to regain their spot? Nick Barmby is doing that and has got a lot more respect from the Leeds fans for it.
Exactly as Paris said below. Dacourt basically said in the interview that a side of Leeds quality should be doing better. Venables slated him and he never had any choice after that.

Woodgate, jumped ship. Still seen as a hero in many Leeds fans eyes, but he didn't have to go.
If you don't think Woodgate had to go, you are kidding yourself about Leeds financial problems.

Mills, I complained because he was lashing out and his teammates on the weekend. What's the big deal about that?
Just continuing your pattern of ignoring negative sides of players at Leeds only to see the light as soon as they leave. Mills more than anyone has been forced out of the club, and your loyalty toward one of your own player extends only as long as he is wearing the Leeds uniform. After that forget about the efforts they put in for the club, they automativally become the enemy.

Mills lashed out at players from the opposing team on the weekend because that what he does, and has done just about every weekend of his career. I am sure he will have a drink and a chat with his former teammates after the game, but you are suggesting he not put in 100% effort just because he is playing the team that holds his permanent registration. That's cheating in my books.

O'Leary, great manager who ended up losing the dressing room and writing the book about the Bowyer/Woodgate trial which probably lead to his downfall. But he made Leeds United one of the biggest clubs in Europe during his tenure.
Funny how pretty much everything you have written since he was sacked concentrates on his role in the downfall of the club, and ignores his role in the success of the club. Apologies if I am mistaken but I also seem to recall you calling him greedy for forcing the club to payout his salary after giving him the sack.
