List Mgmt. Oldest List.

I'm very concerned by the fact, (on average) our list is 1.5 years older than the youngest list.

What is it that concerns you exactly? Because a young group isn’t an indicator of success.

If there’s anything concerning about the data it’s our experience ranking being lower than our age ranking. The aim is to have a mature group (not old) with plenty of experience. We drop on that metric because we have a number of guys who’ve missed large chunks of footy through injury. You give Langdon, Elliott, Scharenberg and Moore 30 extra games each then it’s likely we’re both younger (they’d all be paid more so we couldn’t afford to keep others) and more experienced (the guys that played some of those matches instead of them are no longer on the list). It’s all relative and the deeper your talent in the 22-29 bracket the better.

Carlton bother me on that metric because they’re young and have built an experienced core. Although Betts and Simpson are blowing out their experience.

The guns are all at that right age to strike with only Pendles Howe and Sidey being the older players, really great mix the best we have had in years, I haven't included Beams as he has done nothing to show me he will be best 22 atm.
Whhaaatttt

You may not like him but he is a bone fide gun. Injury wrecked last season but the 2 before that he is a high twentys possession winner also going at a goal a game. Goal kicking gun mids are priceless. If Beams is fit he is automatic 22 easily. Not even an argument

I think that one may have gone over your head Sco. Think AD's point was the difference youngest list to oldest list is much of a worry at all.

Gets really scary if you convert it to dog years.

And even though he was considered to have had a quieter year this year he was still averaging 25 disposals and just under 5 clearances a game. The hyperbole is sometimes just a little over the top.

This is bang on.
something I’ve banged on about.

the guy had (for him) and inadequate season. Hip injury as well. All the other sensitive stuff as well.
here is a guy not in prime mode yet STILL garners 25 possessions on average per game.
mostly using the ball well.

Beams is an A grade gun.
that simple.

we are better of he plays well for us.
that simple.

should we have got him? Different discussion. We have him, let’s use him.

That's what people were saying about Elliot in 2018.

The stat that needs including is how many of the 30+ year olds are best 22 and how many games did they play in 2019

Amen.

This would be concerning if Reid, Varcoe, Mayne & Greenwood were all part of our best 22 in 2020 and beyond.

I doubt we’ll see more than 2 of them in the same team at the same time.

Whilst on the other hand, we are more likely to play Quaynor, Stephenson, Sier, Kelly, Browns & Daicos.

I think we’ll be fine.

Checkers would add to that considering his age when rookied

You would think that the four mentioned would be good chances not to be round next year and if they are may not be key contributors. I say that with all respect to them.

Looking at this list, I’m now a little concerned with how all the players are now younger than me...

PonsfordMagpie really well presented break down of age groups.

I like it’s the age as of GF day in the coming season.

The age of the players is their age on the day of the 2020 Grand Final.

Graphically, I think our age distribution is good. The issue I have is that not many of the <22's are currently in the "best 22" (highlighted players) and how many of the 30+ are consigned to depth roles. I've included Beams despite the uncertainty about his 2020 impact. I've also included Cal Brown and Sier but you could make a case for others to be included.

Amen.

This would be concerning if Reid, Varcoe, Mayne & Greenwood were all part of our best 22 in 2020 and beyond.

I'm just going to add Murphy for you into that last line.

The older guys are becoming depth and also add valuable experience but we are not overly reliant on any of them. Once these guys more on the numbers come down considerably.

Next year will be 10 years since we won our last premiership as one of the youngest teams to do so...hopefully this year we can do it as the oldest.

Not so concerned about that statistic. It’s really only Pendles and sidey that are the generational types that are hard to replace. The rest have either declined already or can or have been superseded.
