Oliver Florent
Young speedster Oliver Florent has become a crucial element of coach John Longmire’s team since the Sydney Swans secured him with their first selection at the 2016 AFL Draft. The Victorian has shown glimpses of exhilarating footy on a wing, most memorably when he jagged a runaway goal in Round 4, 2018 to seal a gripping victory for the Swans over the Bulldogs. But Florent, who’s also spent time on the inside of the contest, is determined to continue to grow his game as a hybrid midfielder in 2020.

Oliver Florent
DOB: 22 July 1998
DEBUT: 2017
DRAFT: #11, 2016 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Beaumaris (Vic)/Mentone Grammar (Vic)/Sandringham U18

Many slightly framed outside runners have no appetite for the crunching tackles. They don't have the bodies to take it on. Their job is to avoid being hit and not getting caught. It's why they have turbo boost and after burners. Having said that, we have had few players over the years who fit that bill. And when they do....they cop a heap of criticism. eg Jets. It's just not the Swans' way. We like them all to play in blue singlets and take the hit when required. So you are probably right. Until Ollie can handle the heat he won't be gifted a game, even though we are crying out for a player with the legs to carry the ball and break the lines.
Let Florent use the "turbo boost and after burners" :)

I still don't know how Veszpremi failed. In his first year he really did look good, and when he played he always seemed to play okay. I don't know how he didn't make it.

Lazy?

Seemed that final v the dogs where he had that moment where they just made him look like he weighed as much as a piece of paper was the end

Couldn't build any resemblance of a tank. Would run 50m and be buggered....

Whether that was attitude or his body I am not sure, but that is why. Had his moments but was massively overrated by our supporter base at the time.

Been reading through all draftees stats and I think we should be more excited about Hayward than Florent.

Very different players. Personally I had Hayward higher but I can see why he slid a fraction. I'm happy we have both.

Florent is ok, Hayward looking likely to be a star.

Just been looking from a keeper league fantasy perspective.

Florent has electric pace, I like that- he suits an immediate need. We needed outside run, we got it. Hayward could be absolutely anything. Florent you should get 150+ games out of him, he looks AFL quality.

He had got footy nous too when I saw him play a few times.

Needs to put on some muscle and fix his kicking a bit and he will be a very serviceable player at worst.

What is it that you think makes him a standout?

His kicking accuracy, his SANFL under 18s second half of the year, he's an absolute gun. Florent played well in the GF and was 2nd best on ground. He was the 4th best rated Sandringham Dragon player.

Champion data are great, love their prospectus.

You still need to be able to cope with contact. He really doesn't like it.

If any coach can do it, our one can. He won't get a game if he won't put in.

Happy for him to be off a wing

Florent would be really pushing up hill to get a game this season. While Lloyd has been able to make the most of his 70-odd kg frame, he still goes missing when the heat is really on. I don't think we can accommodate anymore passengers in the side for finals, already have too many in Rohan, Lloyd and Tippet. Arguably throw Hewett under that bus too.

Needs to bulk up a bit before he's going to be effective, or he'll just be another Hiscox.

There's no ****ing way we get 100 games out of him with his build.
