Oliver Florent
Young speedster [PLAYERCARD]Oliver Florent[/PLAYERCARD] has become a crucial element of coach John Longmire’s team since the Sydney Swans secured him with their first selection at the 2016 AFL Draft. The Victorian has shown glimpses of exhilarating footy on a wing, most memorably when he jagged a runaway goal in Round 4, 2018 to seal a gripping victory for the Swans over the Bulldogs. But Florent, who’s also spent time on the inside of the contest, is determined to continue to grow his game as a hybrid midfielder in 2020.

[PLAYERCARD]Oliver Florent[/PLAYERCARD]
DOB: 22 July 1998
DEBUT: 2017
DRAFT: #11, 2016 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Beaumaris (Vic)/Mentone Grammar (Vic)/Sandringham U18

I'd pay half his salary to move him on for a late 2nd rounder or player.

At this stage where do I sign…honestly of all players he’s been the worst! Even Hayward has looked better

Easy hanging fruit when we lose, bit like Hayward,

Are they both on too long of a deal, yeah. but we sign guys like Mills Blakey and go to massive length deals so I guess 4 for Florent, Rowbottom, Hayward types happens.

Florent is a good honest player, can look flashy, would like him on the inside but what do I know.

I also don’t expect him to be more than solid. And if everyone is fit he may just be better than handy depth.

When the teams performing and flying he can be a great contributor, when it’s not he isn’t changing anything

Not even in our top 10 problems right now imo. Not everyone is going to be A grader, He's a player that sits in that 16th-20th player bracket that will look average-sometime pretty good in a top team and will look poor-average in a bad team. I think if we're talking dropping or trading (which is a bit of hyperbole right now), he's not even in the top 3 or 4 that should be being spoken about.

He used to start seasons really well in his younger days playing as a genuine mid before dropping off. Now he seems confined to flanks, we should be trying to find the best use of him given we've committed a (4?) year contract. Might be worth revisiting playing him as more of a mid?
We seem to throw players into a different position every week so why not try something with him. If it's going to be one of those years might as well try and see about what else we can extract from a few are middling a bit in their current roles, if just one player suddenly clicks in a different position it could make all the difference next year.

Great so we have paid our 16th to 20th best player how much again?

He’s not our biggest issue but he sure as anything IS one of our problems.

How much have we paid him?

Way too much is the answer

5 years was just OTT

Eh, depends on the amount, I mean he plays every week in the best 22 in a side that has won more often than not.

You have no idea what the $ figure is so not sure we can be outraged, what it’s 5 years at the average 350K for instance.

Sure if he is on huge money then it’s ****ed, but never seen any suggestion thats the case

It sure wouldn’t be 350k jeez I’d love that more likely near the 500-700k range. I mean he probably accepted less per year to stay but let’s be real it’s not going to be 350k

The bloke is just average as. That said like you I would put him as an inside mid the rest of the year

My point is still that we are guessing the salary, we can’t ship every mid 20 year old off just because they aren’t a superstar

At least he is out there unlike the skipper

We can’t afford to get rid of players in his age bracket.

He is best 22 and never injured so that’s a bonus

I’m just more frustrated that I thought he would have come on to a top 10 player at the club

Yep it’s like Campbell, the best bits look awesome

Don’t disagree but we can also not have half the side on 4+ year deals like they are confetti

Ok but even then, $500k would be perfectly reasonable whereas $700k would be overs.

It's just nonsense to keep whinging about paying a bloke too much when you have no idea what the amount actually is.

IF what they said is true, Will on 700k, Logan on 800k
If what is reported is true, who exactly was at this lunch that Callum Mills arranged for players to discuss financial sacrifice for the good of the club? Because it sure as shite wasn't Florent, Hayward & McDonald.
