Oliver Florent
Young speedster Oliver Florent has become a crucial element of coach John Longmire’s team since the Sydney Swans secured him with their first selection at the 2016 AFL Draft. The Victorian has shown glimpses of exhilarating footy on a wing, most memorably when he jagged a runaway goal in Round 4, 2018 to seal a gripping victory for the Swans over the Bulldogs. But Florent, who’s also spent time on the inside of the contest, is determined to continue to grow his game as a hybrid midfielder in 2020.

Oliver Florent
DOB: 22 July 1998
DEBUT: 2017
DRAFT: #11, 2016 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Beaumaris (Vic)/Mentone Grammar (Vic)/Sandringham U18

The last thing we needed was another skinny half-forward of middling height that gets creamed in the big league.

Not on the list so you assume average on both tests.
A half-forward that doesn't kick, hmm.

I'm already chalking this one up as a bust. Definitely reeks of Jed Lamb x2

You will eat your words, or chicken, sorry Chumpy.

Ill be happy if he doesn't perform like Hiscox on debut, but I have low hopes. It wasn't like we needed another HFF that can't kick, we already have plenty and delisted more than our fair share since 2010.

reminds of J LLoyd, and hes no pick 11
Maybe not. But hes a very very handy player for us. Every team needs role players and superstars. We have enough superstars.

I think KB doesn't rate pure footballers and skills, he rates character more important and that hurts in the early picks.

Florent will just be another midfielder you cant hit a target, might create a bit more run and carry and create some options but surely we needed a mid that could kick.

Won't be a bust but will just be another player that can't deliver the last pass into the forward line in the pressure games or under no pressure like most of our mids.

I agree.

I didn't know we had so many AFL scouts in our midst. I should definitely listen to them over the recruiting department that has kept us in the finals for 10+ years and saw us in last year's GF with one of the most inexperienced/young lists.

In fairness to our internet scouting department, the club has had a pretty poor record with 1st rounders

bit of a let down from the Hype of Mills last year

what do people see as realistic expectations year 1?

3rd in the best and fairest?
50 goals?
establish a spot in the best 22

anything else is cream on top

I'm not sure links between Mills to Florent is fair... different back story and different types.

If he could have 2 productive games I'd see it as a huge positive sign. He needs physical developing and it will take time to settle. There will also be massive competition this year, more than we've probably ever had....

There could be some big casualties this year - yes, I'm looking at you Mr McVeigh... and what is that smirk for Mr K Jack, you're next.

A top 5 Brownlow finish :p

Realistically, I expect progression in the 2's and becoming a dominant midfielder in the NEAFL. He will play a couple of games in the Seniors & like LukeParkerno1 said, looking for a big 2018.

Anything more, would be amazing

Harsh on Kizza. Was good this yr. The kinda player that can push on a bit into his 30s I reckon. So long as he doesn't lose too much stamina & speed/acceleration.
