Oliver Florent
Young speedster Oliver Florent has become a crucial element of coach John Longmire’s team since the Sydney Swans secured him with their first selection at the 2016 AFL Draft. The Victorian has shown glimpses of exhilarating footy on a wing, most memorably when he jagged a runaway goal in Round 4, 2018 to seal a gripping victory for the Swans over the Bulldogs. But Florent, who’s also spent time on the inside of the contest, is determined to continue to grow his game as a hybrid midfielder in 2020.

Oliver Florent
DOB: 22 July 1998
DEBUT: 2017
DRAFT: #11, 2016 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Beaumaris (Vic)/Mentone Grammar (Vic)/Sandringham U18

Nothing against Ollie the person but I'm afraid I was never keen on him as a defender and he was never played where I thought his evasive skills would work ie at HF. Same as Lloyd. When challenged to change I felt he dropped his bundle, unlike Lloyd. Difficult situation but for the best I think. Hope he has success in the rest of his career as by all accounts he's a very decent guy.

Always thought he was a good honest player that went about his role without any fanfare, but I think in 2025 there was a noticeable drop off and he was a liability at times with some of his mistakes.

Hope he goes all right at Carlton. If Voss finds a good role for him, he'll do a job without being a world beater.

Not seeing what we get in return for him yet... Edit: future 3rd. Meh

He's a better player than we sold him for and I don't buy the notion he was just a fringe player, he what had a form slump and missed 7 games this year after how many 100 in a row or whatever it was. If he actually gets some time as a genuine mid at Carlton I wouldn't be surprised if we see the best of him. Good luck to him, he and Hayward will be some of the few ex swans I'll genuinely be wishing well.

Florent was never a defender, but was forced to play there. Would have probably had a better career if we played him forward.

He'll be good for Carlton, we just had too many similar players and Florent didn't really have a clear point of difference to the others. Just wasnt the right fit for us
