Just watched the Vic Country vs SA game, and this kid looks tremendous. Reminds me of a Colin Sylvia type player, and he is good mates with JV.

If there is no bid on VIney and we get Wines, Toumpas plus VIney in round 2, the MFC's fortunes are going to turn around very very quickly.

Why do people keep speculating on situations where we get Viney in the second round?

IT'S NOT GOING TO FORNICATING HAPPEN.

No doubt he may be a good player, I wouldn't have a clue, but FFS we can't just land every talented kid in the country because we have 3 first round picks.

Also didn't we think Scully and Trengove were going to be some magic panacea by their third years? That turned out well.

Grundy and Whitfield looked really good from what I saw, GWS and GC would be mad to risk them.

I know some don't like the thought, but If someone bids then it's going to be hard to not take one of those 2...

Change the names to Scully, Trengove and Gawn and this thread could have been posted back in 2009.

Except that Wines wont be gong to GWS after 2 years on a million dollar contract.

And there was no excitement over Max Gawns drafting in 2009, no Demon supporter knew a thing about him.

Basically our post is poorly though out and makes no sense.

I went today, and you know who actually reminded me of Sylvia?

Jack Billings. Bottom-age this year but definitely a player to watch.

Brodie Grundy stood out, too. That and GC need a ruckman. Them and GWS passing on Viney ain't out of the question. We'll know more in a few months, of course.

You joined last week, how do you know who we knew and vice versa?

It's a bit hard to compare now to the 2009 draft. Sure we got some talented youngsters, but off field we were still a bit of a basket case. Now we have coaching staff, facilities and programs more comparable to the top teams, we can expect to see better development in our players.

I want Grundy; he will be an absolute monster.

Whitfield also impressed me, I had some ?'s over his inside game but he really stood up in that department yesterday IMO.

Whitfield will be gone for our picks.

If we get out with Toumpas and Grundy Id be pretty happy..
I really doubt you guys will get Viney for pick 13 let alone the second round. He would fit in perfectly at Gold Coast so their bid at number 1 if they decide to do that and would be pretty legitimate and you've already just about committed to the kid. You guys are in a nice position to add some extreme talent to your club whatever happens.

To the people comparing this to the 2009 draft -

This draft IS an extension of the 2009 draft - we have turned what we lost from that 2009 draft (Tom Scully) into picks 4 and 13 (most likely) in this draft.

So stop talking about the 2009 draft for gods sake, of course it doesnt look good at the moment becuase when we haven't been compensated yet for what we lost.

If that happens then I'd be happy to let him go.

Right now the clear top 2 are Grundy and Whitfield. If GC want to use P1 on a needs basis good on them, I want Melbourne to pick best available.

If GC have pick one, I doubt they'd prefer JV over Whitfield

Plus, GWS and GC really need to look at who they would be benefitting by bidding

It's not going to directly help them (their picks will be before us so our pics 3 / 4 will not make them miss a player) it will be directly benefitting those who finish above us

It is either pick 3 or the second round, so your statement is wrong.

This whole Viney thing is just a guessing game.
Yes, all Melbourne fans would love to see him slip through to a 2nd round pick but there is the very real possibility that we may have to use #3 on him too. Ultimately, GC & GWS will make a call & decide if Viney is worth #1 or #2. Its a very big risk if they they are 'bluffing'. Either way MFC & more significantly, Todd Viney will decide, but we should end up with a couple of highly rated kids. As they say.....Time will tell.
