Correct,
Thats why Gold Coast always trade out of their top picks because they would get eaten up by matched bids, same as Essendon trading their first to Melbourne for a future 1st
so we could trade Carltanks pick for say 2 second rounders & a third which would go towards a point haul
I'm assuming we cant trade Carltons pick to another club for their future first given that would be trading two years into the future.

Its all going to depend on where Carlton finish but we can definitely still come out ahead with some smart pick swaps.

Its obvious that its a system that is ripe for exploitation so we may as well exploit it like every other club does.

Whilst we had rights to calsher as a father/son prospect, no one bid on him and we just drafted him anyway iirc
Same with Cody Anderson last year as an NGA. We drafted him rather than matched someone else’s bid.

As a player of indigenous descent, does that mean he qualifies for an NGA somewhere no matter what? Or are there still indigenous kids that go through the open draft.

The thing that is annoying is, if this was North or Saints this would go through without an issue

We are Hawthorn and the AFL hates us so will 100% be declined
Didn’t North try it with Sander’s and got rejected?

If a kids got talent, clubs would be fools not to nominate them no matter where they may go in the draft, even if they miss being picked all together.

Nope, they applied a month before the draft and the AFL approved it.

Their plan was to ask for the AFL to allow them to draft him as NGA as part of their assistance package. It was only after pick 40 at that point, so they needed more special treatment to get him.

I don’t think that was approved as the league and fans were already pissed off about the gifts they got for being incompetent.

We definitely can, if we want to.

Might leave us short on points to match the Greaves bid, but it's our call.

If we were to lose 2-3 depth players for 2nd / 3rd Round Picks then it definitely comes into play.

i believ it would be fine to trade Carlton pick as Greeves would be a first rounder so he would be the selection for th epast 2 years

It's 2x 1st Round Picks per 4yrs, isn't it - not 1x selection every 2yrs?

The application is for him to be part of our NGA program.
Yeah, quite aware of that. I'm just worried it'll be knocked back if it seems we are just trying to piggyback on the development Oliver has received from his TAC/school/local club and we have had nothing to do with it.
How so? Cody Anderson was only added late. IF he is in the zone and meets the criteria it's no different to JUH, Mackenzie, Kako or Jiath. NGAs aren't actually academies, they are just lists of eligible players.

But it does sound like we've already had him down at training and worked with him. And if we are applying for it, that means 1. he must be eligible. 2. He wants to go to hawthorn as NGA 3. We want him at Hawthorn.

If it doesn't happen then the AFL have screwed us over with a rule change. Just like we missed on Tew Jiath or saints on Cam Mackenzie but dogs didn't miss on JUH a few years earlier.
I'm not sure of anything regarding Anderson sorry.
And none of those other players you mentioned except a little on Jiath. NGAs are programs run by clubs which basically expose young Indigenous individuals to our game and the elite environment. I know of the clubs near me having these programs and occasionally playing games etc.
Oliver being at the club for training was more to do with the AIS than anything else so I'm not sure that's worth much either.
The quote in the article regarding the last 12 months is of interest, possibly he could have been involved in some things over the past year but I'm wondering if he was involved to a level where he's using the gym, having days at the club etc would he then not already be part of the program?

I don't think we can cry too foul based off what I've heard from those within the industry and in comparison to ones like Jiath, Mackenzie or Mac Andrew with the Demons.

And let me make it clear, I'd love to get this guy for nothing, he sounds like a jet. But I'm holding my horses before I get excited thinking it's a sure thing.

I think the saints would be feeling very aggrieved personally
