If Carlton is the specific club he chooses (very very unlikely) how do you suppose a deal will get done without the no.1 pick being traded?

You don't even own your own 2nd round pick next year.. where are you suddenly going to get 2 top 10 picks from?

If you weren't trading pick 1, unfortunately I couldn't see how a trade could get done...and please don't say the Pre-Season route...as people are happy to mention that picking one club is the new trend, well in the modern era players never walk and go for pick 1 in the pre-season draft.

We would offer you next years 1st (most likely a top 5 pick) along with 1 of our 2 2nds in this years draft. And that would be the end game. We may not finish last anyway this year. Ollie is out of contract. Port are in a tough place if he does ask to leave fot Carlton

The compensation for Wines will be either an early first rounder, a mid first and a second or two late firsts depending on where he wants to go, all of which is more than fair. PAFC won't be getting a king's ransom but they definitely won't be hard done by.

Read back a few posts son.
Trading these days is mostly pretty close to fair but if Wines decides to leave Port may well have to take what you consider to be a bit of a haircut.
Such is life in the AFL as it stands at the moment ...

Look at some of the trades from players nominating is getting in recent times for comparable players:

Jake Lever - 2 first round picks
Bryce Gibbs netted 2 first round picks who's a 29 year old.
Adam Treloar - 2 top 10 picks
Dayne Beams (under rare circumstances) - 5, 15 and a good young player (Crisp)
Lachie Weller - Pick 2

We might take a slight haircut, but realistically it'd be 2 first rounders likely both top 10 to get it done.

Ryder trade is different considering he had to sit out a full year and wanted to leave a systematic doping scandal of a club which was always going to get unders due to the nature of what their club put players through.

Lever, Treloar and Beams are all better players than Wines and as such would demand better deals. Gibbs was just utterly baffling, even with the great calibre of football he's playing currently it's still massive overs, but Adelaide had been deadset on getting him for years and saw him as the missing piece to the premiership puzzle. Weller hasn't shown anywhere near as much as Wines, but I feel a deal like that would be more than adequate, especially this year with the highly touted super draft.

Every single one of those is wrong.

Not sure how that is even remotely outlandish. Which of the three is Wines better than?

- Beams is easily the best player of all of those listed. If you have any semblance of football knowledge this is just a given.
- Treloar has gone to the next level since moving and is currently around the top 10 midfielder mark.
- Lever could potentially be argued one way or the other, but as a tall he comes at a premium, which pushes his value up.

Can't you make me feel a bit better with the Weller Deal , although is not much but GC do get back pick 42 in return .
If you need two top 10 pick , you need to send back something for the other club .

If Ollie said it has to be Carlton, and that he’s not staying, then clearly it’s pick 1 and something else
If it is Carlton, and Port take that approach at the trade table, no doubt Carlton will spend pick 1 on Wines....in the pre-season draft. Make no mistake if he wants to go to Carlton, this is Port Adelaide's worst nightmare.

A whole lotta disappointment coming for opposition fans if you genuinely believe he's leaving.

Wines wont screw port, If he did want to go to Carlton that would mean that Carlton have put alot of work into him and are obliged to get the deal done and pay fair price which they will - #1 For Ollie Wines is not totally out of the question 23 year old gun inside big bodied mid
You would be happy with any player you select at #1 to become an Ollie Wines in 2-3 years , Ollie Wines is already there and has 10 years in him

And each week there isn't an announcement of him re-signing with Port the growing belief will be that he leaves, we've all seen this playout many many MANY times before.

You need to add (IMO) or wishful thinking, or are you subtly taking the piss? You have some outlandish views on possible trades. For instance, you'd like Richmond to make a play for JDG and you've acknowledged that his salary would be about $1m to do so, (or was that just so we couldn't get the cap space to fit Lynch in). Then to get it done it'd take your first and a fringe player? WTF! It's all wishful thinking in your hypothetical scenarios, at least say that rather then claiming how it WILL pan out when you actually are clueless in this instance the cluelessness is in regards to your inability to acknowledge your own bias.

Carlton could very well gain Wines and keep the number one pick if Wines choses to play for Carlton.
