THE Collingwood Football Club will be given exclusive use of a new MCG-sized training ground on the site of the Olympic Park athletics track.

The Brumby Government claimed yesterday that the Magpies would share the ground with other tenants of the Swan St precinct, including AFL rival Melbourne, Melbourne Storm and Melbourne Victory.
But a spokesman for Sports Minister James Merlino today conceded the facility would be a "Collingwood only'' training base.

What more can this great man Eddie do for this club? It was the plan all along and he has pulled it off once again. Administratively the man cannot do any more than he has done. It's up to the actual football side of the club now to deliver what we all want.

Brilliant news.

This football club continues to grow from strength to strength.

We are blessed to have Ed at this football club.

About time we didnt have to run 2km's just to get to our training ground.:p

Hopefully they leave at least one grandstand there (the Lexus Centre side one would make sense) so we can all go watch training in comfort.:thumbsu:

I am feeling very Olympic today.

Agree with the rest here - this is great news - but it was also inevitable from the day the site of the new rectangular stadium was announced as our Jock McHale oval.

Yes - and that's why we got the old Olympic Park site - in order to fulfill the contract (as part of us leasing the Lexus Centre) to have a training field 'adjacent' to it.

... during grand final week.

It's been a big year for the Pies.

So far we have gotten everything we have hoped for, barring that all important cup (just for you Grumpy).

Tomorrow night at 7.30 pm approx I'll be interested to see if we can tick the last box.

Ball deserves to get a chance to play for our great club.:thumbsu:

Great result, grats to Ed and all involved.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Does seem like everything is coming along nicely for us atm fingers crossed for ball then we will be right in the hunt 2010 flag imo, as long as the gameplan doesn't hold us back.

this board is terrible and has never achieved anything and ed is a hack and everything in the world is his fault and i'm gunna run for pressident when the next AGM is on

lol :)

To be honest, I still don't know why we left Vic Park. Unless there's a reason I'm not aware of, couldn't we have just stayed at Vic Park at redeveloped it?

Wouldn't the local government have tipped some money in too?

We could have kept our spiritual home, saved money and had a nice little stadium to call our own, and actually be able to have lockout traiing sessions.

Again, unless there's something I'm not aware of that was FORCING us out of Vic Park.

You should be happy. You will be able to watch 3 of your 4 teams there :thumbsu:

Council Politics.

Just curious is all.

So we WERE forced out?
As I understand it and to simplify, the Council were not as amenable to our future development plans as they may have been.

It is easy to forget how run down Vic Park was at the time of the decision to move.

Oh I remember.

So nostalgic though. The food stands right outside the entrances and stuff were so cool.

Man, it used to suck not having a seat though.

They were good old days.

But we have moved on to a state of the art training centre and another home base in America.
