A big night in Sydney last night.

The first few of a long list on Tarby's facebook post. Abbey Caldwell and Cameron Meyers are having a great season and for Abbey a great 12 months. Baring injury and if they continually improve, they will be around in 2032 at Brisbane, and will be pushing for finals at big meets over the next 9 years.

I'm a bit mystified why Australian record-holder Trina Bisset didn't compete last night.

She's back from her successful European indoor season and isn't injured or tired as she won a mixed 800m race in Melbourne in fast time just a few days ago.

Strange decision.

Was watching nine news tonight and thought he looked familiar. Always wondered what happened to him. Was our top sprinter around 2010/2011 ish
Yes - he was a good junior but never quite took the big step up to world level in senior ranks.

Remember having a good chat with his mum when he competed in Canberra one year.08

Transgender women will no longer be allowed to compete in female track and field events regardless of their levels of testosterone, World Athletics president Sebastian Coe said, citing fairness over inclusion.
Coe said no female transgender athlete who had gone through male puberty would be permitted to compete in female world ranking competitions from March 31.

Speaking after a meeting of the global track and field federation’s decision-making body, Coe said World Athletics had consulted with stakeholders including 40 national federations, the International Olympic Committee and trans groups about the issue of transgender athletes.

“The majority of those consulted stated that transgender athletes should not be competing in the female category,” he said.

“Many believe there is insufficient evidence that trans women do not retain advantage over biological women and want more evidence that any physical advantages have been ameliorated before they are willing to consider an option for inclusion into the female category.”

He added: “The judgement we took ... was, I believe, in the best interests of our sport.

Common sense prevails.
Way too early to know whether or not transgender athletes have an advantage/disadvantage and not having them compete in their new gender avoids the possibility of having to retrospectively strip a bunch of athletes of their medals/records if it is found they have an advantage.
It also appears increasingly likely they’ll end up with their own divisions in the future.

It's been known for 100 years since athletes like Stella Walsh won Olympic gold medals and denied women (including Australians like Decima Norman) of medals and world records.

100th edition of Australian Athletics Championships started this morning and will continue over the weekend. It's on 7play from 12.30 Qld time (1.30 for the rest of us on daylight saving time).

Today is mostly qualification rounds and a few junior finals but the action will heat up from tomorrow.

AdelaideGT what happened to Aidan Murphy? He didn't run in the heats of the 200m open last night and didn't run the 100m. Went thru some of the live results site last night after the footy and found nothing.

Last night's 'heats' were qualifying heats where the lesser athletes compete for their chance to run in the semis against the A-grade sprinters.

As you probably know by now, he ran 5th (4th Aussie) in the final. He has been a bit up and down this season which is very common for juniors stepping up to open ranks.

Not so for high hurdler Ryan Lightfoot however as the 19yr old became the youngest ever winner of this event in the 100 editions of these championships.

Hopefully Lani Pallister can join the sub-4 club by Paris though her main medal hopes will be in longer distance events.

Great race.

Probably the deepest field in Aussie women's middle-distance history (and most in top form). And then the 17yo (who hasn't been too great this season) storms home to beat a bunch of world-class runners.
