They actually cut funding leading up to the Beijing Olympics and the drop off in medals, albeit not quite to this extent, was forecast some time back. This is the reason most of Australia's best coaches are now coaching overseas.

Personally i couldn't really care. As long as i get to watch those gorgeous European track and field girls every Olympics i'm happy.

Seriously tho if any country was going to win gold for a sport you sit down to compete in, it's Australia. How we missed the opportunity for the beer and barbie gold medal sport at Sydney 2000 is beyond me.

Anna was interviewed on Foxtel and said tactically she planned to go to the front and lead plus do it earlier in the sprint to make Victoria chase which wasn't her strongest asset. Anna hadn't used any of these tactics in competition for 2 years but had trained hard to execute them.

Sounds like Anna and her team outrode and outplanned TeamGB. Well done.
