Went to the G last night for my taste of the 'olympic experience'.

As for the game - spent every 5 minutes looking at my watch to check how long this boredom would be over. Soccer is a boring boring game for 99.5% of the time I found out. Won't be going again.

But putting an AFL slant on it.

Wonder if anyone of the AFL bosses took 15 minutes out of their time munching on caviar and champagne in the superbox behind where I was to look at the pre-match stuff.

May not have been the most rivetting 15 minutes but was a squillion times better than that cringe crud the AFL vomits up on GF day year after year. I saw heaven forbid a performer who hadn't had their last hit in the mid 70's or earlier (ahem Mr Brady & Morris), Taxiride mightn't be the greatest around but atleast they made some noise and the kids knew who they were. Oh well can only hope the AFL noticed but somehow I doubt it when the AFL wheels out Mike Brady yet again next year.

Didn't see the Opening Ceremony bit but its really not hard to do better than the AFL at Grand Final time, quite simply the AFL seem absolutely determined to provide the shittiest entertainment possible at an Australian Sporting Event.

Not even the ham-fisted no-necks at the Rugby League could do a worse job - and thats really saying something believe-you-me.

As for the Soccer - well, I dunno, it was at the end pretty dull stuff and the ridiculous staging for free kicks made it even worse.

I was reliably informed by a soccer loving friend of mine that it was a good game but really I am none the wiser on that one.

Soccer needs a shake-up - big time. Radically overhaul the rules I say to make goal scoring slightly (I mean slightly) easier. I understand FIFA have tried enlarging the goals by one ball-diameter width all round, but some kind of unofficial Goalkeepers Trade Union knocked that one on the head.

Maybe reduce the size of the Goalbox from 18 down to 10 metres ? (so that the goalbox line runs right through the penalty spot) This would make spectacular long shot goals from midfield more common and really enhance the entertainment value of the game.

What do others think ?

Is soccer really as dumb and boring as I think it is ?

Does the game need changes to make it more modern and appealing ?

what are you on about??? ok last night gae was preety bad, but if you go to say a world up final, then goto an AFL grand final, youd think differently. Itz really what game you goto, remember the olympics is basically u23 players, each team is allowed 3 overaged players. And Australia closed the game down last night, because if they played attacking, they would of got hammered!

The 94 World Cup Final was probably the most boring game in all soccer history period, 98 wasn't much better.

Soccer doesn't come within a bees diaphram of AFL in the overall excitement stakes.
