It wasn't part of the official IOC program. They allowed a tournament to be run at the same time. Same happened in Rio with an esports tournament. But neither were given the status of an official demonstration sport.WUSHU its was a demo sport whether the IOC will admit it or not.
Football definitely should go, anything that has a event that is more prestigious to win should be taken away.
Off the top of my head Hockey is the only team sport that should stay, Rugby 7s has potential that was one of the highlights of Rio.
Sports like soccer, tennis, golf GTFO though.
Well they all fell in his semi tooPeople forget though he still had to race well enough to get into the finals.

I'll call you a ******* but I think you are pretty much on the mark.Call me a *******, but I reckon the Olympics should be held at the same venue, somewhere in Greece, every 4 years. Maybe one of the Greek islands perhaps. That way they can invest in some infrastructure that will be used more than once, and build up a bit of history about that particular place. I think with the number of events held it is way too costly for some city to spend billions each time to build one-use facilities. Look up pictures of some of the facilities used for Athens, Bejing or Rio, and see what has become of all the money spent. It is a waste of money they way things are currently done. Now I see QLD are going make a bid.
I have said it once and I'll say it again. Why does Australia keep putting it's hand up to host the Olympics? The NSW and Federal Governments did not have much spare change out of $2.5 billion after Sydney for the sake of throwing a 16 day long party for 11,000 athletes, some 4000 support staff, Olympic officials and delegations. Have any of Sydney's venues been used to their capacity regularly since the Games in 2000? Even the Sydney Olympic Stadium is about to get an $810 million re-build ($200 mil more than what it cost to originally build) to reduce its capacity to 70,000 and to reduce its playing field.Call me a *******, but I reckon the Olympics should be held at the same venue, somewhere in Greece, every 4 years. Which stadium is that supposed to be?Brazil - ghost stadium
Which stadium is that supposed to be?
Flamengo and Fluminense play home games there in the Brasilian Serie A comp, but also in other comps. They got 68,165 in a Rio State League derby grand final game on 7 May 2017, so I don't think it was dire for all of 2017.That was Maracana Stadium in 2017, only 6 months after the Olympics. The stadium management went bankrupt and couldn't pay the bills for electricity or water. The stadium was closed to the public and vandals moved in.
The lease has since been sold to a private developer in and re-opened in 2019. It was looking a bit grim there for a while.

Some of Flamengo's home games were moved away in 2017 but not all. They played all 19 Serie A home games there in 2018.
The Port Board has a Brazilian member who is a fan of Port and Flamengo (used to live in Rio, worked on both the 2014 WC and 2016 Olympics and now is in Portugal) as well as another Brazilian who is a Port and Gremio fan (used to live in Porto Alegre now moved towards the border with Argentina to Uruguayana) Uruguaiana and I had some brief conversations with them about the Maracana a couple of years ago. A derby game is on my sports bucket list.
If the plan is like Subiacos redevelopment then the political party pushing that option has been quietly buying up all the property around with the expectation of selling it to the government via compulsory acquisition when they sign off on the project.Where do they build the main stadium?? The Gabbatoir is landlocked.
If they really wanted to expand the Gabba they could put Stanley Street and/or Vulture Street in an underground tunnel and the buy/compulsory acquire buildings around the Gabba but especially on the Stanley Street side.Where do they build the main stadium?? The Gabbatoir is landlocked.

Not a bad idea. Would help with tourism if people can look up reviews and know they'll get the same 4 years later. If national governments ever stop paying for the Olympics it's what would happen. In the meantime however not much incentive for the IOC to change what they do.
