Could be Mora V2 and never get back into it properly. You'd think the Hawks would be fairly confident with any medical advice they are receiving to be chasing him hard though.

He has a property and business interests in Melbourne. We'd have him for the two years of his contract, and he'd be straight out the door. We'd be lucky to get 15 games out of him given his injuries.

he is 21 he doesn't know what he wants. He just doesn't want to be at GC where he justifiably thinks they screwed his rehab on his knee.

Worth a punt if you ask me - if he gets over his injury he would be one of the top 5 players in the game and theoretically in 2 years time, he has played 30 games of top flight footy suddenly he is worth more just pick 7.

high risk high reward.

Invested in Melbourne's businesses and property. He isn't a 'WA boy' anymore technically, just like Alex Rance is. Both happy to be in another city.
He's a huge risk, and we've already done that with Bennell. Worth sticking with Harley and see him turn into elite 2017 onwards.

Draft picks are a guess. If you don't take risks you get no where.

Get him into the club and midfield becomes the best ever.

Love to take a punt , our midfield could be all time and we serve the hawks a massive turd burger but when you gamble always play the %ages 2 knees so early and the worst type apparently ....it's not the smart play

This is the type of posts that angers me. No offense to you there but please think this through.

You are basically trading pick 7 on a player that is potientially good what happens if he retires after 2 years with broken knees? Sounds like a typical trade of 1995-2006 of trading early picks on potiential risk that always fails us. I rather trade pick 7 on a proven player.

2 trades define freo in that 2002-7 conolly era. Trading picks 3 and 19 for des headland in 2002 and Trading 11, 27 and 45 for josh carr in 2004.

Both those trades meant trading for the moment and trading our future away.

You just dont hand over pick 3 for no reason, You extract maximum value and get as much fair compo for it.

Pick 3 for 7, 33 (Hamling), 71 and Mccarthy was a good trade for freo.

Trading pick 3 and 19 for des headland wasnt.

What if? What if?

What if we hadn't traded for Carr and Headland? We would have had the following.

2002 AFL national draft
#3 - Jared Brennan
#19 - Troy Selwood

2004 AFL national draft
#11 - Adam Thomson
#27 - Pat Garner
#45 - Justin Sherman

We won those trades, if you're keeping score.

Trading is very simple. If you believe the payoff is greater than what you give up, you do the trade.

O'Meara is 22. Headland was 21. Carr was 24.

Neither was anything close to "trading our future away".

You could argue we gave up too much for Carr. Given the season Headland came off, that trade was more than reasonable.

Jaeger O'Meara was considered the next GAJ. If we do due diligence and we believe that he's over his injuries and that there won't be any equivalent talent at pick 7, you pull the trigger.

Yeah it would seem odd for the Hawks to go so hard for him if they believed his body couldn't last.

It be so funny if the Bombers picked him up and he turned out to be gumbleton 2.0.

Consider essendon simply inject to their players i doubt they can fix o meara.

We could draft SPS, he does 2 ACLs and is out of the system in 5 years. If the Hawks (the best in the business) are confident they can get him right, why can't we?

Like a 0.05% chance of happening anyway though.

If gumbleton wasnt injury prone, he would of been a good player. Hell he might of joined freo as a free agent after 8-9 years at essendon with a fully fit body.

Josh Carr trade was in a weak draft.

Headland had a double knee cap and our medical team lets down.

Josh Carr was worth it for the derbies alone.

You can say that the deal doesn't cut it but I don't think you can fault Hawthorn's effort to make a fair trade. Mitchell and Lewis gone and reamed by St Kilda to get a top ten pick, no 1st round picks for the next two years. If you compare it to Prestia and Titch there isn't that much in it.
