Apparently, if Scully goes, we can trade our compensation picks for O'Meara and another one GWS' best 17 year olds. Apparently has all the tricks to be a number one pick, but i don't know anything about him.

What sort of player is he?
Is he as good as Scully?

Other clubs also have the option of trading for one of the 17year olds.

O'Meara however has stated he would like a deal to be done with a West Australian club.

My faith in the whole draft process has been torpedoed by this Scully business.

What stops a GWS or whoever, from offering O'Meara ( or anyone of our existing guns ) "silly money" again, to leave the Dees?

Big Deal on getting these high draft picks.

In fact, when free agency comes in, get used to players swapping clubs for the alimighty $$$

Unfortunately this will be the way of football , and....more sooner than later.

because by the time omearas contract would come up at melbourne all clubs would be working under the same salary cap, and GWS will already be stuck overpaying scully....
so were just as likely to poach other players

Pretty sure GWS will frontload the s**t out of $cully's contract, and is GWS haven't won a flag within a few years, Vlad will hand them a whole new raft of concessions to make it happen.

He's lightning quick (2.80 sec 20 metre sprint), classy inside and outside kind of player. Apparently has a bit of X-factor about him (obviously helped by his explosive acceleration).

Has all the tools to be a no.1 pick.

What would we give up for Omeara is the question.

Other clubs will be going very hard.

We may well end up needing to give up 3 first round picks in the superdraft to have the best offer.

We might be better off just taking the 3 picks.

If we can get our hands on an elite talent, it's worth 2 first round picks and a player (surplus to requirements of course)

No player, let alone an unproven 16 year old, is worth 3 picks or even 2 in a super draft unless were discussing one of Thomas, Judd, Pendles, Ablett, Murphy, Buddy, Riewoldt

I disagree, with our list in the state that it is (fairly well rounded, albeit inexperienced), getting a top shelf talent if Tom leaves is very important.

What I would prefer is an established young midfielder... seeing as we get Viney in the 2012 draft.

I'd be very cautious about picking up O'Meara if we can't hold on to Scully. It's been pretty clear since this was floated that he's very keen to stay in WA. I don't want another #1 draft pick pissing off after 2 years, especially if he's only allowed to play for one of those years.

Yeah but if he wants to leave, they'd have to trade for him. And we definitely wouldn't be paid unders.

Best (at the time) player in the AFL for Kennedy, a spud who can't kick and an anarexic spud? That's unders for sure!
Agreed. Was being fascicious if you didn't notice :p

They didn't trade him for Masten and Notte, they traded him for Pick 3 and 20.

Judd for Kennedy, Grimes/Rioli/Grant/Dangerfield and Maric/Pears/Otten.

Yeah I'd take that.
