Norman junior gets a mention, never seen raw talent like it, could’ve been any thing, moved like a gazelle and built like a bull. Contrary to what some may believe, he worked his bloody backside off early days. Carved out one the best country football resumes I’ve ever seen. At the end of the day, premierships are what we are all remembered for, no one can take that away.

Yes every recruiter in country Victoria has a story how a O&M club has blown them out of the water when trying to get a player to there club.
This is true, however I don’t think the Raiders are made of money. They’ve got somewhat of a recruiting guru in Price, as reported he landed Ellis Yolemen to the club via an email. Price is a close friend of Tippas, that would be why they’re front runners. Mathieson was overlooked in the draft just yesterday, so he obviously had bigger plans. I don’t think they could afford both, just tossing two lines out in the hope of at least one nibble. Indhi Kotzur, Rutherglen junior, you’d think Corowa could’ve enticed the kid, that’s footy.

Wangaratta Magpies getting done for cheating wasn’t great press, but it’s a premier competition mostly consisting of homegrown talent. Clubs like Wangaratta Rovers work their backsides off to promote their local juniors. Albury, Yarrawonga and Wangaratta, let’s just say they like gift shopping, and it ain’t local produce. Ultimately this kills the little guys.

i would love to know how over the last 5 years what club has bought in the most amount of recruits that are as you call it “local produce”.
I can guarantee it’s not the tigers or magpies and I would think that the pigeons wouldn’t be first on the list either.
Including cresswells pay, I would guess that the rovers would have spent close to or over $1.1-1.3million in the last 5 years to win 2 finals with a turn over of at least 15-20 non local recruits in that time

BigDribbler76 will have the answer for you no doubt.
Pot and kettle comes to mind, again.
I’m sold that BigLaz has very little to do with Rovers, he’s consistently embarrassing a great club on this forum weekly

If the big man himself isn’t aligned with the rovers I’d be shocked, what that alignment is who knows but he knows too much.
My moneys still on a NDIS patient/parent of an underperforming 2’s player who suited up for the magoos in his hayday.

Geoff is one of the great parody accounts ever, I'm sure it's a few rovers guys taking the piss out of what one of the old man says in the back shed.

Geoff Knows far too much about the league, rovers with he's info, he throws a bit garbage to get us sidetracked, but most of he's info about clubs the league has been on the money, I'd go as far to think he's got a bigger following than prime

He is what makes Bigfooty great. I do enjoy most of the carry on, even when he gets me to bite about my beloved pies

Yeah, you’re probably right. As someone said previously, it’s like Santa Claus.

But in the 2023 thread last week he did post the draft of the draw. So definitely has to be aligned with a club and in the know to some degree.

Don’t forget how many letters this man has penned….

I’ve been told to keep an eye out for a newspaper article this week or possibly next weekend. Something around player payments in country footy.

Let’s hope someone has a solution. Money has completely ****ed country footy.
It’s a business for many of these blokes and someone has to pay the $500 round trip motor vehicle costs from Melbourne, it’s not just petrol money. And that’s just the start to get them up here.

Money has always being part of country footy, Fred fanning left Melbourne after kicking 18 to coach Hamilton for more money, same with Rose to rovers.

The problem Is that the vafa can offer players better jobs, suburban clubs can offer more money, so generally country clubs over the state are paying more for inferior players, only the o&m and geelong leagues can attract quality recruits in country footy

So let’s let suburban footy become that. What have most of travelers added to the league? I’d rather the o and m be a showcase for the best players within the region.

Those players that have traveled have added more than enough to the league. A big reason why it’s the premier comp in the state.
I’ve always stated that the points system is too high. Should be 38 points like Wang was on this year. Makes clubs focus more on chasing after their home grown players worth one point over loading up on ring ins that often don’t stick around and only erode the clubs culture and bank balance

The problem is the vafa and metro leagues play in the mid 40s, makes it hard to recruit for major country leagues, who have 5-6 less points
