I could see Sandilands kicking a few goals playing in the forward line. He is 211cm tall after all, and his skills are better than most give him credit for.

However, who is going to kick the ball to him with Warnock not getting a game? Freo's midfield has been reported a million times as being no good, slow etc., and I don't think anyone really fears Gilmore in the ruck.

Gilmore's clearances stats in the ruck aren't bad. he gets the ball and gets a clearence quite a bit.

The problem with the forward plan is even though 211 is tall he'll still get consistantly scragged. If you watched our game on the weekend the amount of times forwards like Tarrant, Pav and Franklin got clear pushes in the back for no free meant that Sandi was never going to get any marks - the defenders were getting away with too much.

I like Gilmore, I just think that up against a Cox, Lade etc. with decent midfielders under them more clearances are going to go against Freo than for.

I didn't watch the Freo game at the weekend. A game where free kicks weren't paid would have been refreshing compared to the over-officious tripe that was the WC Adelaide game. Filthy maggots made us lose by 13 goals instead of 12! ;)

You make a decent point about leaving Cox on his own in the ruck Gilmore would struggle, but he has a lot of ticker (just not up to the task IMO other than as a pinch hitter).

Reports can be meaningless, our midfield with Palmer, Ibbo and Mayne around is actually young and fast, just not experienced enough.

I like the idea of Sandi dropping forward, but we certainly need Warnock in IMO.

I state facts.

Fremantle fans hate facts for obvious reasons.

Hmm, and what 'facts' have you brought to the table. You've trolled on numerous Freo threads this morning with nothing more than hollow rhetoric.

Hmm did you watch the round 18 derby last year?

Old Gilmore didn't do to bad at all running with cox. :thumbsu:

I must be speaking Dutch or something. Spreekt u Engels?

I like Gilmore, I reckon he's a valuable part of the Freo side. Gilmore running with Cox is a great idea. His clearance work and work around the ground is great. Contesting ruck taps against Cox he will struggle though, IMO.

Clearly that's not his job though. If Gilmore's in the ruck, it's purely to provide a contest and then help out at ground level. It's only because he's got a good leap and is somewhat expendable (in comparison to our other talls) that's he there in the first place. No one at Freo would consider him to be a ruckman.

You've said above that Gilmore running with Cox would be a great idea - that' a big part of Cox's value to your side, and is difficult for Sandilands to beat. The clearance thing is a bit of a non-issue - doesn't seem to matter who Freo come up against, the clearances are in the oppositions favour.

Cox is considered the "best ruckman" because he gets so many possessions, but the fact is, ALL eagle players seem to get high stats, it's the way they play.

Does Cox take pack marks week in week out? Or does he just get out on his own and receive a lot of the ball, because that's the way the team plays? His taps to advantage don't seem to be his strength. How many contested possessions does he get? Is he really that a good a ruckman, or more of an oversized midfielder?

I would rather have Sandilands any day, and if given the choice of another ruckman, well to be honest, I would take Brendan Lade over Cox any day.

If you think about it for 5 seconds, if Freo's midfield was as good as the eagles (of the last couple of years) Sandilands ruck stats would look a whole lot better, although they already stack up pretty well against Cox, and every one knows Freo's onballers are pretty average, even when they get hands to the ball first, they seem to cough it up.

Cox. Overated. True story.

I notice every time Cox plays a team other than us He is used as the first receiver in the back pocket hence the big possesion tally.

When We have played the Eagles that never happens as he was always manned up , even when 211 had his jaw broken Polly was given the job of stopping it.

I just hope that Harves is on the ball with this as it could hurt us. That is all, keep an eye out on Saturday. :thumbsu:

Fair enough, hadn't noticed and will keep an eye out on Saturday. I do find though that in many games the opposition get the ball outside 50 after a behind a lot more easily than we do down the other end.

The bag is not far away - He could have had three today but the sealer was a thing of beauty. :)

25 ruck knocks 15 (6 contested) possessions 5 clearances 3 1%'ers 3 I50's 1 goal 1 behind is not a bad day. :thumbsu:

He's certainly getting there Rip. A little bit of confidence and he'll be on his on way. Warnock coming into the team will be good for him as well - he doesn't need to carry the full load of the ruck anymore, and Warnock's strengths being Sandi's weaknesses should spur him on to improve even more. :thumbsu:

Yep. They compliment each other very well and together don't give the opposition a chance to get on much of a roll.

They were our no 1 & no 2 clearance players today. :thumbsu:

... is all 211 needs while resting at FF.

The fear that would spread through the other teams would be huge.

Might as well do it this week.

Bit of an early call there.:o

Against Port it nearly happened 2 goals 3 behinds.

This W/e 5+ would be handy.

I actually dream't last night He had 8 goals at Half time. :thumbsu:

He marked pretty well I thought. His first few marks were corkers and kicks were great. If he can continue the marking and improve his kicking as much hes going to be sensational.

His kicking let him down badly in the late 4th quarter but thats probably tiredness and probably not entirely his fault.

Must have been using my posts last week as motivation, because he certainly proved me wrong.

Still seems lost when forward I reckon. Would really love to see some deliberate structure and set plays when he's down there, to get his confidence up as a forward. Just seems a little haphazard to me.

Teach him to lead 10-20m away from the corridor when they flood, and go to him if they don't commit 2-3 players to him, and look for a a player in the corridor if they do. Pretty basic, but would work. Got the opposition in a bind either way.
