A major issue over west is that the AFL is considering only scheduling one Western Derby match next year due to the melee problems in the Round 21 match.
Pros of only 1 Derby:
* It builds up greater suspension and the game would be more publisised - where the team that wins would be the 'winner' of the derby for that year - instead of having 2 possible winners
Cons of having 1 Derby:
* One club is going to lose out on a big profit by not getting the gate takings (for Freo, this is crutial since these games are the only ones ever sold-out for them)
* Most people love getting to at least 1 derby, so this way it gives both clubs to at least secure their members a seat for the game.
What do you think of this proposal? Should the AFL seriously consider this and only schedule the 1 game, or do you think they are crazy?
How would you feel if they only scheduled 1 Carlton/Collingwood, Carlton/Essendon, Collingwood/Essendon, Melbourne/Geelong, Richmond/Essendon 'blockbuster' and Port Power/Adelaide 'showdown' game a year?
