One game wonders

Not a one game wonder but a one half wonder Simon Beaumont kicked 8 against us in one half round 17, 1999. Finished with 8. Wpulda thought he'd get at least 12 on that form.

not a one game wonder but Will Hoskin-Elliott kicked 6 goals in a game against Freo in 2018 and never reached those heights since goal-wise (a change of role and some injuries are to blame for this)

Jay van Berlo kicked 4 of his 10 career goals in one game against the Dogs. Only time he got more than 20 touches too, delisted after 30 career games.

Bradd Dalziell

Doggies (and I guess Blues) fans - Was Jason Tutt’s best game his debut?

Jared Brennan
Assume your picking out the game for lions against Collingwood. 15 disposals, 10 marks, 7 goals?

Played a fair few other good games amongst his 173 game, 101 goal career before retiring at age 29.

22 disposals, 8 marks, 4 goals v Essendon
24 disposals, 4 marks, 4 goals V carlton
20 disposals, 12 marks, 2 goals v sydney
25 disposals, 7 marks, 1 goal, 8 clearances v bulldogs.
31 disposals, 1 goal, 7 tackles, 6 clearances v wce
21 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal, 16 tackles v Essendon.

He often played his best for the suns against the lions.

21 disposals, 3 marks, 3 goals
30 disposals, 7 marks, 1 goal, 4 tackles, 14 clearances.
30 disposals, 4 marks, 5 tackles, 10 clearances

Was inconsistent both inter and intra game, but was one of my favourites players to watch. Could and did play literally every position on the field.

Hardly a 1 game wonder

Not quite a one game wonder but certainly a very fleeting ‘star’ was John Georgiades of Footscray (father of Port’s Mitch).

He kicked eight goals on debut in round one of 1989 in a ten goal win at Carlton, which was a huge upset at the time.

He then kicked five goals in his third game.

His career was over in 1991 after just 15 games and 27 goals in total.

Josh Glenn, selected in the 2015 rookie draft had 21 touches, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 1 goal, 2 goal assists in his debut game for the Suns in a QClash in 2015.

Only played 5 games total that season and was delisted after informing the club he didn't want to continue as an AFL player.

A few years later got banned for 4 years by ASADA after anabolic steroid found in a urine test after a SANFL match.

Beau Muston.

Was drafted to the club having done a bad ACL, where it was said he would be a to 5 pick if not for the injury (went pick 22).

Shortly after joining, was revealed the first surgery had been botched and needing doing again.

After 3 years on the list, was set to finally make his debut, only to do his knee again and need another full reconstruction.

Another 12 months later and he finally makes his debut. He collects 31 disposals (the most of any Hawk), including 24 kicks (most of any player on the ground) and a goal on the run from 55 out on the boundary (on his wrong side). He has pace, a pinpoint long raking kick and looks amazing. "We've got a player" declares all Hawthorn fans (and most of the media).

He goes on to play 12 more games, averaging 13 disposals before being delisted.

That first game still baffles.

Billy James. Played one game. It was in a winning Grand Final.
1920 for Richmond.
That’s it… one game…one flag.

He was the player associated with the legend of the shooting accident… blew a couple of toes off in a hunting accident after the 1920 season and never played again.

A few years back it was declared to be wrong - he actually went home and played for Kyabram for a few more years, before the shooting accident happened.

He’d actually just left Richmond because he was needed on the family farm.

Adam Saliba.
His first game was unbelievable, and was the heir apparent to Andrew Jarman. Bruce McAvanney said " A star.is born".
He played in the SA State Of Origin team, and then disappeared.

He had talent coming out of his arse, but didn't want to play at that level. Went back to play with Gaza I think.

When in doubt always think 'Is Richard Lounder a possible answer to this "obscure-player trivia" question'? He usually is.

No 1 Draft Pick.
1st game - stood in the forward pocket, put his arms up (he was a giant), grabbed a few and kicked 4 goals. Star.

Complete career - 4 games. Total stats in his other 3 games - 3 disposals, 2 hitouts, 1 goal.

Good get!

I'm obviously not an Adelaide supporter, but I always think of him when talk of unfulfilled talent pops up.

I vaguely remember watching him, but distinctly remembering he was one of those players with more time on their hands than normal, and he was pretty skilful too?

What might have been........

Dean Polo 28 and 3 goals on debut
Anzac Day Medalist Mark McGough
Basically any random scrub can dominate Essendon in the last 20 years.
"ANZAC Medalist" 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

The most talked-up but pointless phrase ever uttered in football.

Replace it with - Got three votes in a round 5 game in the wet. Does anybody care?
