ONE HD - One Week At A Time

Nah, we're classed as "regional". We get Win (9), Prime (7) and Southern Cross (10) - the regional affiliates of the commercial broadcasters.

Channel Teen should be sued for false advertising the way they raved about the introduction of OneHD, while conveniently neglecting to mention that 1/3 of the country wouldn't be able to receive it.

Good news though, Southern Cross have recently started running ads indicating that OneHD is "coming soon". No dates announced so far, so "soon" could be tomorrow (unlikely), 3-4 months (probable) or 2011 (distinct possibility).

Completely unrelated to football, but what is with Channel 10 completely ignoring all their other programming to show only sport in HD? They'll show extreme paintball WTF, 'slamball' (ok, that was cool for the first 10mins) yet things they pay a motza for, like House, NCIS etc they now only show on SD. The footy, golf, netball and the NBA look to be the only true HD anyway.

Really? They said something positive about us? Fantastic. I missed it but watched Footy Classified where Patty got a 15 second mention right at the end of the show. Would've watched One Week if I was watching a TV with digital.

It's ONE HD now. A totally different channel dedicated to sports. Did you miss all the hype and promotions about it?

It's not a stupid question at all.

Ch Teen (along with the 2 other commercial networks) were presented with 2 additional channels - 1x HD and 1x SD. They have chosen to use both of them as 24 hour sports channels with identical broadcast timetables - effectively OneHD and OneSD.

Given that the ratings for the sports channel are likely to be lower than that of their normal programming channel, the decision to dedicate both channels to sport is a curious one. Why not go with Ten, TenHD and OneSD?

We know they decided to go with Ten, OneHD and OneSD, but why? The commercial rationalisation behind it would be very interesting.

It think why they went the route they did because it was cheap, nearly all of it is just ESPN programming. 10 arent doing all that well financially so I guess they see having a sports channel will pull in some additional revenue rather than ten just showing most of their SD programming on the HD channel.

I am also not sure whether HD multichanneling is available yet this might explain why ten 10 has bitten the dust otherwise it would more than likely make more sense to have 10 HD and One HD.

I never said it was a stupid question. I meerly assumed that aneale wasn't aware of OneHD yet. Wasn't being sarcastic or a smart ass in anyway.

Is there any reason why there isn't any HD multichanneling at the moment? It was good to be able to watch House etc in HD and while the sports channel is great I'd prefer both, hehe.

Not sure if they're allowed to multi-channel HD, or whether they were only given 1x HD and 2x SD to use. Also not sure if they have the bandwidth to broadcast that many channels.

Then again, maybe they do. Prime broadcasts 4x SD channels & 1x HD channel here in Canberra - albeit 5 copies of the same thing.

No, they don't have enough bandwidth.

Although they'll try to make you think differently. They've been pulling changes recently like reduced HD resolution etc so as to try to squeeze 1 HD in with less (not nil) blockiness than full HD.

Yes, you are not getting full HD 1920x1080i, you are getting about 1440x1080i last time I looked (it uses less bitrate than 1920) and even that gets blocky.

Per-channel bitrate is everything and the channels can't realistically fit acceptable 2xSD+1xHD into their bandwidth slice even if one of the SD is terrible small bitrate. This place http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?&showforum=15 has loads of threads mentioning the blockiness and pitfalls.

This show should be renamed "The Robert Walls Carlton Power Hour" and screened on the Carlton website, not a national television station.

I'd say at least half the show was Robert Walls moaning and bitching about the loss on Friday night. Hilarious. :D
