As I was queueing outside Skilled Stadium (nearly behind the Doug Wade Stand) on a cold, dark and blustery Sunday morning after the Grand Final, my mind instantly shot to a cold, blustery Sunday in 1999.

It was the "rally" the club had where Cook/Costa/Thompson (recently appointed) outlined their long-term plan as the club was in damage control and near survival mode after our financial plight was public knowledge and our coach and captain had recently walked out.

Must say, it was funny reflecting back to that day. Nearly brought a tear to the eye :)

Just basically standing there in the Ponsford stand after the game and just soaking it all in. I didnt say a word, just thought of all the crap we had had in the past was all worth it. Just watching all the fans, the players and officials.

Also when the players sang the song on the ground after the game that was "special".

I watched the GF at my old mans place, about 45 mins from my house.
Just after the medal presentation, I had to leave to get home for some dinner guests at our place.
I was previously quite reserved at my dad's place (he's a Swans supporter), but when I got in the car, I screamed for about 2kms straight!!! Woohoo!

Mine was probably standing at Federation Square about 7pm after the game, just watching what seemed like an endless sea of blue & white clad fans congregating near the stage. A pretty good moment.

As for a moment that I think back to, I reckon round 2, 2004 versus Carlton at Princes Park would be pretty close. A very tough day at the office. Stood behind the goals surrounded by Carlton fans.

We've come a long way.

I just thought of all of those Geelong supporters all over the country that i know and how they would have been feeling during that last quarter.

I also felt for those supporters that didn't quite make it this far to see it. I felt for a man i never actually met who died after a long illness last year. My brother's partner's step father was a mad geelong supporter who never missed a game on TV and used to jump and scream in front of it.

I also felt the joy everyone around me at the ground was feeling and especially down in not so sleepy hollow!!

As the players were walking around the ground,my friend and I started walking out, in a state of euphoria.

Just then the PA system stopped playing the club song and started to play "We are the Champions".

I turned around and gave the biggest scream of the same words as my whole body was lifted above the Level 3 stands ( I was on level 1 )
I was crying absolute tears of joy my whole body tingling and uplifted.

I was in HEAVEN.

(Sorry if my moment is bit long.)

The day was just full of them. The Turbo clan arrived at the ground early , as is our ritual , setup the BBQ and cooked breaky. Just a few cars away was a couple of cars loaded with Port supporters doing likewise. All was fine except for their audio tape , they had their sickening "Port Song" on a loop , no surprise it just wouldn't STOP , STOP , STOP. The funny thing , I still felt relaxed ,it really didn't get to me.Took the youngins around the ground. It was their first GF , well if you don't count the eldest being in nappies in 95. Face painting , entertainment , radio vans, its a bit different to a normal day at the footy.

Finally the time came and we went into the G. Again , nothing like the feeling when we played the Pies. Even when watching Port have their practice kicks for goal , you could really see they weren't as sharp as they were down at the Cat Cage when they beat us. I was still relaxed , I could even eat something , it was amazing. Then game started and we were on. Come on , come on, dont stop. Stop missing for F*** sake. Then GAZZAAAAA , JIMMYYYY.

It was happening , it was sort of surreal. After all this time and in the end we were just doing it so easy. Too easy. I was getting SMS from my Collingwood mate OS. BURY THEM he said. Meanwhile I'm thinking the same. DONT STOP!. 50 points up at half time. Come on, come on we have lost games from here. Then they come back on and MOOOOONNNEEYYYYY kicks the goal. YES , YES. We are still on.

It was about here , about 10 minutes into the third I called it. Others called it much earlier but then others might not have experienced the full range of the Geelong emotion rollercoaster. 10 minutes into the third , we were not stopping , they couldn't stop us. It was here , I had my moment. It was here I turned to my my daughter and said "Girl , were going to win a flag , were going going to win the Premiership". "Yes Dad" , she replyed. I mean it was obvious were a mile up but it was the moment I finally was willing to believe , I was finally willing to "take my lid off".

It was amazing signing our theme song half way thru the 3rd quarter in a GF.
Then in the last I thought for sure we would slow up. NO, not until about 10 to go. Scarlo turning around and conducting the singing , Tom Harley giving the fans , High Five on the boundary. Then after the game the medals, the Caps.Toms "We are Geelong" and the lap. Going outside , buying a WEG Premiership poster and looking at the Port supporters. Looking at them and seeing myself from 94 and 95.

Just to top the day of , the battery was flat in the car. Man the G car park is a bit scary a couple hours after the GF. Thank you RACV.

What a day. But I will never forget that moment , my moment. The moment I finally knew I followed the best team in the league. I have always followed the best club but finally we were the best team.

Yelling out to Jimmy "Jimmy, Give us a hug" as he was standing waiting for the rest of the team to catch up during the victory lap (at the punt road end) and he came up and gave me and my mate a massive hug. Awesome......

Just being there was a personal moment. Have followed Geelong for 46 years but never seen a GF. Became a regular member in 1997 went to all the games even interstate but we never made another GF till now.
How can one forget the atmosphere in the Ponsford stand after the siren, all the tears shed by many of our past players.
I think Tommy and "WE ARE GEELONG" brought a tear to the eye, and just the emotion showed by all the older supporters around me was enough to enjoy the moment.
When you have followed a club for so long and the desire to win another flag is so strong when it happens its just unbelievable and still sinking in.;)

I'm with you Jan. After waiting such a long time ( I was 5 when Geelong last won a flag) there is nothing to describe the happiness this Grand Final brought. After the prelim when we defeated Collingwood I bought some GFC number plates and I look at those everyday and grin. It's true...winners are grinners :D
