Wouldn’t pick Harris on an Australia A tour tbh. Warner, Pucovski, Whiteman, Marsh, Wade, Khawaja, Maddinson and even bloody Bancroft (picking Bancroft would be equally as dumb but he’s a slightly better option imo) are better options for a test opening position. Probably a bunch of middle order batsmen we’ve never seen open too tbh.

Too many quicks. Four back up quicks? Will be a waste of time for 2-3 of them. Our quicks that are test options bar Pattinson have actually been relatively durable for the last 24 months considering the amount of injuries quick bowlers get.

In regards to Head, I don’t get the logic in dropping him and then recalling without playing a shield game. Lots of good players were dropped but they earned their way back into through shield cricket.

Outside of that the squad is reasonably predictable and assuming Jhye isn’t fit enough for test cricket we actually can’t do too much better (Harris is a terrible selection though) short of recalling batsmen who are 30+.

Lucky the T20 squad is only playing T20s. They might do okay tbh - if they played New Zealand in ODIs they’d get absolutely smashed.

Carey wouldn't have done any worse than Paine in the last two Tests. And on Wade, what's the point of him even being in the side? He's not part of Australia's future. Get him out.

Thank goodness Chris Rodgers the Victorian Shield coach has jumped in and tried to change Glen Maxwell's decision to give up playing shield cricket again as Maxi has conceded they do not want me for test cricket again. The biggest waste of talent I have seen in a long time for test cricket and ruined by this 1 day,T20 crap.

Think maxi needs to take some responsibility as well if he wants to play test cricket again

In fact this is the perfect opportunity atm to try and get a batting position in the aussie test side, due to the lack of runs from Head Wade and both of them not being able to hold a position.

Maxi should be screaming at Rogers to stay in the Vic side....if he gets 2/3 hundreds in a row his name is back up in lights for the selectors

I do agree that he is a waste of talent atm in test cricket but its not all the selectors fault the responsibility also lies on him

Khawaja
Warner
Labuschagne
Smith
Pukovski
Green
Paine + *
Cummins
Pattinson
Hazelwood
Lyon

NIL bats: Kurt Patterson, Nic Maddinson

NIL pace bowlers: Starc, Neser, Richardson

NIL keeper: Carey (if they really want him to captain) or Inglis

NIL spinner: Jon Holland

Get the feeling there's too many guys not being selected because Langer doesn't like them. Time for Langer to go.

Just announced today that Maxwell has not given up on playing test cricket for Australia again.

Holland isn't test standard, and Swepson has definitely passed him this season

Yep - IMO the gap is smaller between Lyon and Swepson in comparison to Swepson and Holland (or whoever you think our third best spinner is). In the race to be Lyon's back up he has left the field for dead.

Will be one of the younger ones coming through whether it be Tanveer Sangha or whoever

Can we have a moratorium on anointing blokes as a future test player until they've made their first class debut?

Absolutely but let’s be real under Lyon and Swepson the ones that are playing are barely FC standard let alone test

Khawaja has averaged 20 over his last two seasons and doesn’t open in FC cricket he is done. Patterson has also done nothing of note. How is Holland the next spinner in line? He is shit. Got out bowled by Labuschange the last time he was in the test line up

As a test spinner? Don't rate him at all. Doesn't turn the ball enough. ODI's and t20's absolutely as that 2nd spinner though (play him and Zampa as the main two spinners, I'd actually play 3 in t20's). Agar will be that pseudo 2nd or 3rd spinner when we go to the sub continent but I personally don't like it at all, rather just play Swepson as the second spinner.

It is funny though that you were big on him when he was 19 and wanted him to replace "worse version of Gavin Robertson" Nathan Lyon.

Tanveer will play first class cricket, get carted and you'll be well off him.

I get the feeling that nobody least of all Agar is quite sure what to do at the moment. I think they'd like to get him into the Test team but they're not quite sure how.
They're trying to turn him into a batting allrounder.

I won't actually as I really want a leg spinner in the side. Having a bloke that can TURN the ball both ways is so important. I'm over Lyon and his nudie nuts. Yes he's done well, but in 12 months after the Ashes the time is right to move to the next one.

Agar still has a future in test cricket.....left arm orthodox do okay in the sub continent ... look at jadeja ...that's where his future in test cricket lies playing on the dustbowls of india etc

Gun fielder and can bat...still has a future for me in test cricket

if Australia were playing this test in Chennai this is what id want the team to look like
Pucovski
Warner
Labuschagne
Smith
Maxwell
Paine (c) +
Agar
Cummins
Lyon
Hazlewood
Swepson

Green would be the flexible 12th man who could be used as back up quick

India 4-0 if that’s the team!

Warner averages 24 in India. He's not in Australia's best XI over there. For me it'd be something like:

Pucovski
Whiteman
Labuschagne
Smith
Henriques
Green
Paine (c, +)
Cummins
Swepson
Lyon
Hazlewood

That batting order is frail to say the least. No way you'd pick Agar with Lyon and Swepson and Labuschagne as genuine spinning options. Need a proper 6th batsman. No point having all of the spinning options in the world and no target to defend.

Green could come in and Maxwell and Marnus could bowl
