For some reason I've hopped on the Maxwell test train. Really hoping he gets picked next year for the subcontinent tours. We've really got to start getting some guys ready for that tour. How? I don't know.

He isn’t the answer well at least I can’t see him being picked anyway. No point even putting him in these sides. Can’t see our top 6 really changing that much. The only issue with our top 6 is our no 5 and frankly I’d back Head over Maxwell if that’s the choice.

Would have Maxwell before Head any day especially over there.BUT until he gets the chance to play some red ball cricket I can not see him getting in.

That time has passed we won’t go down ten Maxwell route again

Agree for Australian conditions I’d back Head but in Asia I’d take Maxwell

It’s concerning that we have 9 tests in the subcontinent next year and we haven’t got any specialist players to send over there.

Yet I’d still be playing Green over both. He was our shining light this summer with the bat. He was good against spin too

That is your opinion which I respect but you are judging him I presume on T20 and 1 day cricket innings. His last 8 innings he averaged 37 and all in Asia plus 1 of the best fieldsman in the world and would be a handy spin bowler over there.Personally I think if he has a issue it is the short ball from the fast bowlers, perhaps because he tries to take them on,I am talking more about red ball cricket.

No I’m hiding him on the fact he can’t be trusted, he’s too old too. We need to push our next lot through. Do not care about his bowling which is flat pies at test level...and we ain’t pick ing a bat on their fielding. Unless they are awful fielding is such a minor thing.

Agar was impressive in Bangladesh I thought, as a Jadeja type should be an effective player.
Particularly if we have Green or Marsh as a 3rd seamer option.

You didn’t just say Marsh! I swear no! We don’t need him at test level again!

So what do you mean by he can not be trusted.Could say the same about every Australian current test bat except Labs and Smith. To old,he is only 32.

Get them both in!!
Ironically swampy would probably be our best bat at the moment not that I think they should select him.
You're right though Mitch has to earn his spot back if he wants a chance, didn't realise how poor his average was.

Has the worst average for a top 6 bat in our history that has played 20+ tests

Yes and 32 is too old. We need to get some younger bats coming through not more 32+ year olds who are as limited as can be. Maxwell would be the worst batsman in our side if we were saving a test and as a top 6 bat you need to be able to do that as well as you can set up a game

So you would play Wade and Warner.Remember Warner's overseas form, how about we try and win a test, not save it.

if Australia were playing this test in Chennai this is what id want the team to look like
Pucovski
Warner
Labuschagne
Smith
Maxwell
Paine (c) +
Agar
Cummins
Lyon
Hazlewood
Swepson

Green would be the flexible 12th man who could be used as back up quick
Don’t mind the concept, don’t think you need 5 spin bowling options though. Maxwell and Labuschange justify their inclusion with the bat. If Agar would have to justify batting in the top 6 unless you drop Hazelwood and play Green as the second seamer

Maxwell should never have been dropped in the first place

Green is the new all rounder project for us. We are going to back in Green for a while which means Mitch Marsh wont play tests for the foreseeable future at least. Mitch Marsh averaging 25 with the bat at no 6 aint cutting it.

Where did I say I’d play Wade? He’s another limited bat that’s too old.

2017 he was pretty consistent, averaged 37 in all tests. If we were going to India shortly, could you please name your side.

Warner (he’ll be there I don’t like it but he’ll be there)
Pucovski
Lab (capt)
Smith
Green
Carey or Whiteman (or whoever scores the most in the upcoming Shield).
Paine (wk)
Cummins
Lyon
Swepson
Hazelwood

I’d go the two and two split with spin and seam over there. green as the 3rd seamer

I said shortly, lol. No way Labs would be captain and prefer Cummins to him.Carey or Whiteman ahead of Maxwell you are joking although I see a future down the track with Carey as a batsman. You would think if Paine not captain only a matter of time that he is replaced.I like the 2 spinner,2 pace with Green the 3rd option with pace. With your side and Maxwell at 5 you have 4 spin options as well.BUT we are getting ahead of ourselves,12 months till this tour I think.
