Every pink ball test at Adelaide oval Australia have been written off, yet come away with the goods! That was even more apparent when Australia beat SA, when coming off the debacle in Hobart.

Our bowlers will probably get the job done, although that would be dependant on the fitness of Cummins and the form of Starc.

Opener
Wade
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Green
Paine (wk)(c)
Cummins
Starc/Pattinson
Lyon
Hazlewood

Who can we honestly play? Harris looks wobbly at the higher levels still, Burns is in the worst form I've ever seen and Warner and Pucovski can't play.

Shaun Marsh? Probably. His luck continues.
Finch? Surely not.
Khawaja? Selectors don't seem to want to consider him
Bancroft? Gross
Someone more left field? Philippe? Weatherald? Inglis? Carey?

Ok, hear me out...

We’ve got JL right there in the shed. He couldn’t be worse than Burns, Marsh or Khawaja! At least he’d put value on his wicket.

As in Langer?
Well, in a competition for the most ludicrous/unrealistic selection suggestions on this thread, and there are quite a few, this one is the clear leader thus far...

While there are a still a few realistic options remaining I suspect the selectors will retain Burns who will open the batting with Harris...

Can’t believe I’m saying this but Shaun Marsh. He’s the closest to being up to it atm. He can fill in for one three games until Warner or Pucovski returns.

Wade can do the same but I’d happily drop him down the order if he outperforms someone else.

Picking Harris, Bancroft or Burns or Khawaja in their current lack of form is a waste of time. The latter two are only test standard in form, the former two are just never test standard ever.

He'd be a safe bet. Which is what we need. Chances are he'd actually ton up honestly. Usually does in Aus.

Left field Glen Maxwell.Fancy leaving that talent to play the shorter version of the game so it can please media like Fox sports,Channel 7 etc to get viewers to watch that crap cricket.

Dont like labushagne as an opener. Yes he could very well be in there pretty soon, but he is our 2nd best batsman in the side, we need to give him at least 5 overs to try and get the swing out of the ball.
Bring in a blunter get Paine to open

I like Maxi. But he isn't an opener. I suppose Paine and Wade could open together. Maxwell at 5-7?

Doubtful, but I wouldn't be completely against it.

Wade
Labuschagne
Smith

Green

Seems reasonable to me. Labuschagne ideally doesn't open, but he effectively is if Burns and Harris play. So either just ditch one and have Lab open, or better yet (and like many of you, I can't believe I'm saying this) bring in S. Marsh. Wade also shouldn't really open, but I'd rather pop him in there than drop him. I think it would be crazy if Wade loses his spot but either of Harris or Burns play.

I think they need to leave Labushagne, Smith and Head where they are. Green needs to play at six. Either Wade opens or misses out in my opinion, I am happy for him to open.

I don't think they can pick Burns, I'd pick Harris.

Khawaja made a good point - selectors clearly have shown their hand by the squad

No one else is being flown in

so the openers are out of burns, Harris, labuschagne of wade

if it’s a matter of plugging a gap for a test or teo- agree with a few others - marsh is in ripping form

even a well made 25 would be welcome

just hope green is fit - with an absence of talent due to injury - it doesn’t make sense to leave the lad on the sideline

They can still fly in someone today or tomorrow. The Test doesn't start until Thursday.

If Green is fit, he plays. Means Wade should most definitely open in this scenario and be partnered with one of Harris or Burns. Now IMO, it is only for one game, I’d probably still go Burns due to incumbency and the superior test record. Ideally at least one of Warner or Pucovksi are fit for Boxing Day and take Burns place first

They could - but you'd think they'd have played anyone they'd be looking at as a substitute (unless there were already an incumbent).

Burns and Harris are both at a point where neither is really worthy of being selected - so the odds were at least one would fail.

I think a Wade/Harris opening partnership looks the most likely - assuming Green is fit.
