Not ideal but probably what I would’ve gone with as well at the top. I’m not convinced with Harris at the next level up and at least Burns has had success at International level before. Risky opening with a guy who hasn’t done it at First Class level before but you know you’ll get a gritty performance from Wade and hopefully he can get a score. Hope it’s more of a success than the Finch opening in Tests gamble. Hopefully Warner and/or Pucovski are available for Boxing Day.

I would’ve gone with Pattinson over Starc but I’m confident Starc will perform well so not overly concerned about the makeup of the bowlers.

Yep. This fascination to get Harris in is just a bit weird. He might have improved, haven’t seen enough this year to say either way but he hardly was glowing before, has a top score of 70 odd. Plus Burns is better in the field
If you had to pick a Test opener for 1 match before Warner and Puc return from injury, you should pick the opener in the best form. That's Harris.

In your view. I’d take the bloke who actually has made big runs in test level

He is averaging 6 this summer and got 4, 0, 0, 1 against the Indians. He isn't going to magically get 50-100 against the same opposition. The bit that annoys me with Langer is that he saud "you don't lose form overnight", and he hasn't he has lost it over the last few months.

I actually get what Langer is saying. Would you drop Lab if he made 5 ducks coming in?

I seriously don't know why Paine is there. Not even in the best 5 domestic keepers. We deserve to lose every series we select someone for being a good captain but not actually earning their spot on merit. I look forward to watching Paine score his 20 of 80.

Okay, which keepers are better than him?

I personally wouldn't pick Burns - his head and feet are a mess at the moment

However - his selection at the expense of Harris is hardly a travesty.
This.

Ultimately the other options weren't super appealing. If Pucovski or Warner were available, Burns would have been out.

He must be nervous AF though. 31 years of age and after 20-odd middle of the road tests over a few different stints.... you're very unlikely to get another chance if you get dropped again.

Are you suggesting Burns is in the same league as Lab?... Lab has credits in the bank, Burns hasn't really done much, he has made a few hundreds but been dropped a fair few times.

Has more test hundreds than the alternative who has donuts
