I'm just worried about Pucovski against the short ball. Clearly, he has issues against it with his technique. There's no way someone like Bumrah doesn't target that
The thing is if it's not Bumrah testing him out now, then it will be one of the South African's another time, or Archer next summer, or maybe Matt Henry from NZ or Kemar Roach whenever we play them. He's going to spend his whole career being pretty severely by the short ball against bowlers who can really zing them around your head.

Obviously with his concussion issues this is a bit more of a special case than normal, but at some point if he wants to be a test cricketer then the leap has to be made and this is as good as time as any now. I have no doubt there will be some heart in the mouth moments during his first handful of tests, regardless of the opposition.

Jhye is ahead of him anyway

Why isn't Jhye called into the squad FFS ??? he is a lot better than Nesser and Abbot
He was injured at the start of the summer so I think they made the call to leave him out for the summer.

In the normal run of things I'd imagine he is in front of Neser and miles in front of Abbott.

Probably because he hasn't played a red ball game this year...all well and good to bowl BBL overs, but it's different bowling upwards of 30+ overs in a Shield or Test match

In the way that he isn't?

And I'd be guessing it's because he hasn't played a long form game this season and is probably still on bowling restrictions (Torz?)

The second Test showed it wasn't a matter of form, he's just not good enough for Test Cricket against good bowling.
I recall reading someone described David Hookes as a first-rate punisher of second-rate bowling, applies well to someone like Burns who is dominant at domestic level but out of depth at Test level

Burns is hardly dominant at domestic level.

Burns is hardly dominant at domestic level.
Well 'dominant' is probably a stretch, but I think he certainly does well enough on paper to have his name in contention again whenever he has been dropped (Shaun Marsh is probably a better example in terms of being a cut above domestic but struggling at international standard).

Pucovski looks set to open. Would you put him in? Personally if he's cleared by the medicos then I would for sure.

Been waiting too long for him to play for Australia, I think it's time!

If he’s fit he plus and opens. He’s a top order bat.

unless we are waiting to blood him on matches vs say Sri Lanka, we need to play him at some point against quality bowling. The SCG pitch will have no demons. So lets see how he goes.

Plus he’s a mile better than the alternatives.
Harris isn’t the answer and Wade is a stop gap at absolute best

Based on his dig in the Aus A games? Out for 5 nicking behind

In my expert opinion, Alex Carey should be played as a batsmen in the test side!
Most of our batsmen seem to have a major weakness where teams can exploit -- I don't see that with Carey!
Who would you rather -- Carey or Head?
I know who I would pick!!

I would imagine he’ll have no restrictions when the shield season rolls around. Just a matter of getting some red ball cricket into him to put his hand up for selection again.
