In my expert opinion, Alex Carey should be played as a batsmen in the test side!
Most of our batsmen seem to have a major weakness where teams can exploit -- I don't see that with Carey!
Who would you rather -- Carey or Head?
I know who I would pick!!

Just don’t see how he’s any different to Head both are extremely vulnerable outside off and play every innings like a limited overs match and have an fascination of feeling the ball on the bat.

A million to 1 of him even becoming near Sangakarra. You are taking gambles- you gamble at Shield level not at test level.

This is the problem every year for the last 10 years, big bash is on during holidays and some hack makes a few runs slogging out of his ass and suddenly people think he should be in the test side.

Not that I would pick him as a specialist batsman, but he's averaging closer to 50 over the past two years. Only problem is he hasn't had much red ball cricket recently.

Maxwell is the stand out player that should be seriously considered as a test player at this stage even late in his career,lets forget his batting but look at his fielding and the extra bonus of a part time spin bowler. Leadership qualities would at least make a ideal captain in the shorter version of the game as well but the Aussie selectors have got this one so wrong with his only cricket since mid 2019 the shorter version of the game.

If you combine shield cricket over the past 3 seasons and the test XI since Smith and Warner returned, there isn't really a more consistent batsman in Australia right now. Head does have the stats, but Wade looks a far more assured bat. Also has the second most runs this series and has faced the most balls for us.

But both need to pull there fingers out and improve there batting
