Not a lot. Ben McDermott was having a good Shield summer, from memory? Bit of a stretch back now haha.
When you look at the top 10 Shield averages, most are in the side or been tried. Pucovski, SMarsh, Head, Green, McDermott, Harris, inglis, Henriques, Whiteman, Hunt... the bolded not yet had a chance.

Starc has to leave. I don't care how much he averages, he's a one trick pony.

We also need a better keeper and captain. That means Paine has to be dropped as well - perhaps Labs can captain.

Harris has to come in for Will if he can't get up for the Gabba
Yuck. No.

Wade would open and I’d rather somebody else get a go in the middle order but Head would likely get a reprieve.

Limited Wade is our Vihari. Adds nothing to the line-up.
The bloke who saved the match on one leg? Jeez, you must really rate Wade

Some changes required, you can't play the same 11 after that bowling performance. I mean I'd be happy to drop Paine, because I'm not sure what he's bringing to the team aside from banter behind the stumps if he's dropping catches regularly and offering nothing to the captaincy. Obviously that won't happen though. Starc needs a spell, if the ball isn't swinging he offers nothing. Can't bowl a consistent line and length to save himself, and thus builds basically zero pressure if he isn't in the wickets. I'd be looking at moving wade on too.

I’d probably keep Wade for the last Test, he seems like someone who plays well with his back to the wall and might pull something out to help us win it. But definitely time to look elsewhere after this series, it’s mainly because there aren’t other good options right now.

Watching Labs when they’re discussing referrals, he’ll burn all 3 by the end of the first over of an innings!

LOL do you want anyone to play or just drop them all ??

Paine had a shocker today but he was MOM two tests ago which we won but I agree he needs to improve his captaincy and getting the lads to gel as a team...we are not seeing that atm

Starc oh starc he did break Jadeja thumb which was good...as I had picked jadeja to get 5 against us in the 2nd.. so that was good...But he does have issues bowling and as you say when the ball isn't swinging he struggles....I reckon the heart valve on starc compared to the others is pretty small when things don't go his away......I reckon if that was Jhye out there today...he would of kept going on a dead pitch..but saying that i think starc has gone okay this series I would give him the brisbane test.

Wade bloody wade....is it 30 tests now and still averages 30 you would think batting at 7 for the majority he would of had some NO to boost his average a bit.... still plays stupid shots and does not help out his team mates.....and his back pad fielding is shocking....so yes I agree move him on
but he will probably play if puc is injured

Both wade and lyon as senior players have been huge disappointments this series.....really let there team down

Neser and Swepson in

Do you loose much by playing Neser over Wade/Paine will score the same
Yes, neser averages mid 20s first class and would be out of his depth, hes barely batted top 7 for Qld.
Only Justifiable with agar as 2nd spinner but even then shaky call.
Starc is the weak link, Jhye Richardson or pattinson next best strike bowler should come in if their fit.

I wonder how Neser would go at the Gabba of whether we should go Patto

Can’t see the selectors picking someone from outside the squad given the size of the squad and Covid restrictions. That includes Pattinson who I believe has left the squad.

I don’t really see any real improvements from within the squad available tbh. Ideally (given the squad) we may pick Head instead of Wade but I dunno, it doesn’t look much different to me.

If a squad for South Africa is announced in the next little bit Harris, Henriques and Abbott should be no where near it. Richardson should be close to a sure thing. It’s about time Carey or Inglis start to get involved with the squad too - Like Paine or not he hasn’t got long left (neither should be considered as specialist batsmen). No need for a back up all rounder and geez we need to find some batsmen from somewhere.

Can't see them batting Paine at 6 with Neser at 7. In fact I would say going down that route doesn't even come up in selection discussions given we have Green as a fifth bowler anyway. We don't need five front liners and an all round bowling option.

The bowling has generally cut the mustard so don't think there will be panic stations from a bad day, even if at was a very bad day. Starc is still - as ever - erratic and Lyon is well of the boil in this series. Possibly a single change (Neser for Starc or Swepson for Lyon) but definitely won't be two bowling changes - bearing in mind both would be debutant's. Either change is a pretty speculative move, given what is on the line. Most likely they'll stick with the main four, assuming no one picked up a niggle in this test.

Still a lot of questions over the batting and now a bloody potential should injury for Pucovski. If he's cleared, Wade hasn't done anything to say he has pulled clear of Head for the last batting position, but at the same time I'm not sure they'll recall Head after one test unless they need to. If Puc is out of the fourth test then that does throw up a conundrum. Wade/Head or Harris/Wade at opener/five? I'd take Head over Harris as on overall batsmen but do need to factor in a Wade/Warner opening combination being pretty combustible. Harris should at least be reliable for something like 30 off 60 and take some shine off the ball before Smith comes to the crease. if Warner hits some form as well then even better as Labu should get some protection - he's basically become a pseudo opener this series except when we chased down that mighty target of 93.

Yeah it could click for Warner and Wade and they take the game away from India quickly but Wade, even if his stint as an opener in the first two tests was OK, hasn't scored a test half century since November 2019 whilst Warner just played his first test in a long time so it seems the more likely situation with these two opening is an exposed middle order and that could spell disaster. So I think it will be a straight battle between Puc (if fit) and Harris (if Puc's not fit), with Head on the outer still.

Could the play Henriques as a batsman?
Not the most far fetched thing given experience, part of the squad.
He might go alright against Ashwin compared to head or Harris.

Nothing to write home about in the bolded there either.

That draw was an absolutely terrible result for Australia.

I sincerely hope we get our heads straight for the Gabba and bring our A game. Because not being able to beat India's B team on our home soil with the vast majority of our first choice line up available would be calamitous.

That being said, what an awful day 5 pitch. Did absolutely nothing.
Hope Langer plays the whole day to the whole players and staff, over by over on repeat at 7am Tuesday morning.

Paine lowered his colours today but he's had a pretty good series. He must play the final test. Also who else do we give the captaincy too? Not sure we can give it to Smith or Warner, and Labs seems to be on the outer circle of the team (not sure he's leadership material)

Pattinson/Neeser in for Starc

Head in for Wade (or Pucovski if he's not fit)
