Pattinson is still in Melbourne so the covid restrictions rule him out,Nesser is still with the group so he is the only fast bowler that can be added if a change with the fast bowlers.

Sean Abbott is in the squad as well. You'd expect Neser to be ahead in the pexking order however.

What about overseas??

Not sure where else to put this since the 3rd Test thread is closed, but holy shit the overreaction to the last days play from all corners of the media has been the biggest load of histrionics and hyperbole I've ever heard. You would have thought Smith and Paine killed someone. Neither came even close to crossing the line and Paine had a shit day behind the stumps, that's it.

It probably has been an overreaction, but it is in part an inevitable reaction after the culture campaign created by CA, Paine and Langer. They cultivated a media effort of showing the evolution of the team's culture from Sandpapergate to the nice guys who don't abuse etc. They went to great lengths through the documentary, their media messaging and their on field behaviour to show how they were a team with a reformed culture, different to past generations. This invites a higher level of scrutiny on minor-ish incidents like this.

The highlight for the last day for me was the way India tried to to win the game and when Pant went out save the game.So many injuries and struggle to see how they can prevent an Australian win in Brisbane though.

They only need a draw and with Pujara there to stonewall they are always dangerous

Well said, unfortunately they set themselves up for this. I think Langer needs to read the room a bit better on the Smith issue. I think the majority of people didn't like it regardless of how often he has done it in the past. Calling the criticism laughable will only annoy people more.

I'm glad Langer said that, it's a storm in a tea cup!

It is but he is making worse. I think he should of just said there was nothing wrong with it and moved on. Trying to go after ex players and the media doesn't normally end well.

I'm not fussed either way, it was much worse when those ex players were around playing

What Smith did was not a good look and why do it,lets move on.
I'm willing to believe there was nothing particularly malicious about what Smith did but it does reinforce my opinion that he's probably not very bright. You'd think that after the role that cameras played in the Capetown debacle he'd be more aware than that.

Not with the spectre of Capetown hanging over him it isn't, it was a deeply stupid thing to do.

We only have ourselves to blame there as we over punished them then. Glad the coach laughed this off.

It was a bit of lame banter from a frustrated keeper. It really doesn't need to be spun into a discussion about the culture of cricket in Australia.

There's a reason Paine apologised the next day. Calling opposition players 'dickheads', and reverting to the 'no one likes you and they like me' line is the kind of sledging that Paine and Langer have tried to distance themselves from. I'm not saying I agree with the pile on from the media, but Paine is the one who establised the supposed need to not engage in that kind of sledging.

But the question is why did Smith do that other then hold the game up? If players are going to do that all the time surely something has to be done to stop it.It is stupid and makes no sense.
It was at drinks. How was it holding the game up? The only reason it was on camera was because Fox were talking to one of the bowlers in those stupid interviews they do at drinks and the world feed doesn't take that so they just get a shot from stump cam. Pant literally walks to his mark straight after it and immediately finds centre and then finds the mark for off stump.

It is absolutely mind-blowing that this is even being spoken about.

Good thing is even though paine messed up basically two minutes after it was over he accepted he messed up took full responsibility for it, won't make the slightest difference to the majority of the cricket world who will condemn him for it but still right thing to do.

If bumrah was one of our lot i imagine that would have been the main talking point post match, imagine say starc knocking the bails off forcing Indian umps to go pick them up that would be a few months worth of outrage at least.

Absolutley. Paine's an imperfect leader, but he's one of the few (not just in sport, but any kind of leader) who would call a press conference the day after a mistake to apologise and take responsibility for it.

Yes that's why i think he is more a di-khead than a cheat

If only he'd do the same for his ridiculous use of DRS!
