I have to wonder what Warner's plans are post the Ashes next summer.

We go on a number of sub-continental tours and while he managed to do well against Bangladesh a few years ago I wonder if he'll consider giving the Test game away after we host England given he's had a really tough time away for the most part.

Pucovski is a bit of worry. It's hard to build a side around someone who seems to get injured so easily. Combine that with his mental issues and you wonder if he's going to have a long career.

It's probably worth having another look at Harris as pretty soon we may have no choice but to play at least one mediocre opener in our side. Fingers crossed Renshaw manages to come good before then.

I really hope Harris can seize this chance. Really, really like him when he is on and he composed a few really really fluent looking 30-80 knocks in his first stint. I don’t know how many more chances he gets so I hope he goes on with one this test (or in SA if he gets another crack.)

He had that massive innings early for WA and other sporadic hundreds but never really hit his straps at all (averaged under 27) until he got to Victoria, since then he’s been exemplary at state level.

I’m hoping his over 400 day hiatus this time around will provide the same impetus to knuckle down and tighten his technique, be patient out there and deliver that losing his WA contract did.

If Jasprit doesn’t get up he’s made much bigger runs against better attacks in shield cricket than what India have left in the touring cupboard here.

sorry, yes by on the spectrum I meant it the colloquial manner, as in just someone who has an autistic condition or aspies.

and not just that. Yes I noticed his tics from day dot (when he was an 18 year old leggie) and started to pay attention. I have relatives involved in the grade cricket scene one particularly involved in the junior rep scene in Sydney who I immediately asked about him.

they said yes he’s a freak and they’d heard that at that age (15-16) he was already putting in at least 3 hours a day minimum. There’s the hyperfocus.

what they also said he was prone to massive tantrums when performances didn’t go his way. not your typical teen angst outbursts, but, in tears in the rooms for an hour afterwards, not talking to anyone bar himself for hours afterward, just muttering to himself about what he did wrong while looking at the ground. Oh yeah he’d also cry if a game got washed out.

FWIW I’ve heard he’s still prone to such reactions.

Also I know he was under immense pressure at that press conference when he got home, but just looking at the way he got overwhelmed I thought sh*t, I’ve been there, that’s a meltdown.

again obviously I’m not having a go at him, as I have autism as I mentioned. I also wouldn’t call him a sufferer as I don’t refer to myself that way. Yes it makes things hard sometimes seeing the world through a totally different lens but if Steve has it, in his case, it’s contributed to him being the cricketer he is. Just as it’s contributed in me being successful in the pursuits I’m passionate about. (Wish mine made me millions though!)
Well said mate. Tbh what I read from that is that hyperfocus you mentioned has basically turned him into the run machine he's become today. If he gets consumed by all of the finer details of batting and visualisation then it's definitely an advantage in my mind. His mind is like a computer, constantly processing information to use or store for later and his fielding at slip is usually superb as well so he can clearly concentrate out there

I think if Head can conquer his spot in the test XI and score a mountain of runs, he will become the captain of the Test team no matter what given his experience and ability with South Australia.

I think by 2025, this would be the lineup that would best represent Australia, ability wise in the Test Arena:

Pucovski (28)
Whiteman (33)
Labuschange (32)
Head (C) (33)
Phllipee (WK) (28)
Green (26)
Carey (VC) (34)
Cummins (32)
Richardson (Jhye) (29)
Pope (26)
Hazlewood (35)
Pope hasn't done much at fc level to indicate he will play tests. Carey as specialist no. 7 is interesting. Don't think Head will overcome his technical issues.

Four & a half years is a long time; can see somebody like Sanga in top 6 & a new star fast bowler emerging from nowhere like they always seem to (usually from NSW lol).

Has he done anything other than a few wickets in an under 19 team to suggest he'll be a test player ? I reckon Smith will still be in the side in 2025 also tbh.

Tbh I was thinking about putting Smith still in the lineup given the ability he has but I wanted to make a lineup that was the future without Smith so you could probably put Smith instead of Philippe and move Head back to 5.

Pope though could grow into that role in the future of being in that lineup given the experience he will have being the lone spinner for SA for 5 years by then but probably the safe option would probably be Swepson for that time-being although if T. Sangha can start getting wickets at Sheffield Shield level, watch out for him ;)

That’s definitely it mate with the ‘hyper focus’. I went to a select entry school in Sydney and those who have REALLY gone on to succeed in fields that don’t explicitly require ‘Social skills’ but rake in the massive bucks, say being an actuary or a highly specialised surgeon (obviously you’d rather they have a bedside manner but that’s secondary to wanting to get out the other end alive)

Like this one bloke I know is the one you’d want pulling a tumour out of you then stitching you back together but he’d be horrific as a GP. If a 15 year old girl spoke to him about the pill he’d freeze and walk out.

I honestly think Smudge has approached his cricket in such a forensic matter. Like you said it’s like he’s processing things through his head like a computer.

You could tell he was absolutely shi.tting himself at that press conference when the enormity of what he'd done hit him like a ton of bricks and he burst into tears. Contrast that with Warner who came across like a wanke.r and I'll take a bloke on the spectrum every single time 👍

Pope has been the victim of hype and expectation after his WC performance. Whilst he's picking up some wickets, he's currently very expensive, averaging 72.5 with the ball and needs to work on consistency of his control. His wickets in the England match were largely the same type of delivery. There's still a lot of time for him but Swepson is miles ahead of him right now.

He will be 36 by then, he seems like the kind of player that would play for as long as he could but I think he might be done by then.

Apparently India are going to risk Bumrah and Ashwin

Big big risk if both go down injured India have no one else who can bowl

Exactly but hey if Shaun Marsh is still going at his rate and scoring runs, Steve Smith should have the option to keep batting as long as he wants

Damn that is a very big risk, although do they have any other decent bowling replacements in the first place cause it seems they have had more injuries during this series then the Lions have had all last season

Kuldeep Yadav isn't a bad option for replacing Jadeja but I won't lie if I would say I haven't heard those other two bowlers before.

Surely Australia can win against the Indian lineup that will be present tomorrow otherwise I'm moving to NZ to live there forever after this pandemic has ended :tearsofjoy:

And Ashwin

Id put a 100 on warner getting a ton
I would be putting a 100 on Lyon & Hazlewood getting a century both of them the way the injuries have occured for India :tearsofjoy:

Might as well bring me to open with Harris tomorrow to smack my maiden test century as well and then retire as a happy man
