Burns has failed every dig this summer and you wouldn't say his spot is certain at the best of times.

Probably gets there by default at the minute. Making runs against the Redbacks almost shouldn't count and should discount Harris. I say this as a South Australian.

Great to see Rogers working with Harris... around the wicket he needs to improve and yes his fielding is average

Every year these types of threads are full of people stating ‘player x is in good form, let’s pick him’ when the season has been going for 2-3 games. They say form in temporary, class is permanent and imo it works both ways (ie average player might be a gun now but they won’t be next week).

Facts are that unless you’ve done it before this season (which is three games long at this point), the selectors won’t and shouldn’t pick said player and will stick with the guy who’s done it before.

Burns isn’t great but established himself last summer. I’d be shocked if he lasts the summer though.

He made 97 in the first test v Pakistan then failed the rest of the summer, made single figures on the flattest pitch ever produced in Adelaide as well!

I mean, I'd still plump for Burns because I think he has the most chance of actually scoring runs at Test level, but god damn.

Burns spot was the flakiest of the team IMO and he'll need to make a score in both of his last two shield games to keep his spot. I'd pretty much take 5 other openers before him at the moment

if only we had the afghanistan test this summer before the india series, they may well have gone for both pucovski and green to start the summer.

burns, head & wade are still the front runners to start the summer.

pressure may be on the above if the selectors go with an extended 16 or 17 man squad prior to the first test.

this may also give us an idea who is in the frame for the upcoming south africa tour.

Not even close imo.

Players that are truly test standard will go back to the shield and make decent runs regardless of their form in the test arena. They may struggle for a bit but eventually class will shine through.

Pucovski has just played his first shield game of 2020. Green is only 21. There’s no rush with either of them.

Pucovski has made 1500 runs at 51 in the shield and passes 5 in every third innings. No point letting the grass grow

Green has been averaging in the 70s with the bat since he stopped bowling. He justifies his spot as a specialist bat but now can also offer 10-15 quality overs with the ball
