Not that bad a thing if Pucovski plays first test anyway
Happy to see him get a run but if Warner comes in for game 2 it could be rough getting only 1 game under lights against the pink ball and straight back out again.

Can drop Burns for the second test anyway.

Oh for sure but it puts pressure on Puc to perform in game 1 or he goes straight back out

More likely to stick with him if he’s picked for the first test imo

Look at his numbers in Australia over the course of his career, I'm critical of Warner at times but when playing at home he's elite.

They are good but it’s been a while since he’s been great at home as well coming off an abysmal Ashes. Very good Indian attack too- Bumrah, Shami, Yadav, Ashwin

That was Pakistan to be fair even Burns got runs against them. Went to England and dead set Lyon was a better bat!

Mostly against NZ, but if you want to admit the SCG was a road and discount his runs there then that's fine ;)

Funnily enough of the 4 test venues this summer, the MCG is the only one he didn't make a hundred on last year.

Also you are getting a tad confused, England test series was last year, before the home summer where he averaged 131...

You are correct on the England series got the dates mixed. He’s just been a frustrating bat to be honest not helped by commentators though!

Yeah but like Starc and the pink ball, Warner will always be first choice in Australia on flat roads.

What has Warner's Ashes series 18 months got to do with anything? This is David Warner at home, who is an entirely different proposition. He is an easy target because of his record in England, but his record at home is not up for dispute.

He only had 2 innings against Pakistan and made 489 runs.

You are forgetting he averaged 60 against NZ prior to the Pakistan games and was the second highest run scorer of that series behind Labuschagne.

His series at home prior to that was the 17/18 Ashes in which he averaged 63.

His series at home prior to that was against Pakistan where he averaged 71.

We are talking about one of the greatest batsman of all time in Australian conditions here. He averages 66 from 40+ test matches at home at a SR of 75 facing the new ball. Hayden's (who is widely considered a huge flat track bully in the Sehwag mould) record in Australia doesn't even come close to Warners.

How far back do you want to go?

Warner has only had 2 series on Australian soil where he's averaged less than 55 in his entire career, both against South Africa (2012 & 2016).

An unbelievable statistic.

They aren't going to get rid of Burns if Warner is out. Too much disruption.

I think you're probably right.

But if Pucovski is the great white hope, if we want to find a way to ease him in after his previous mental health issues upon being called up - it makes all the sense in the world to me to pick him alongside Harris if Warner isn't fit. While he was a bit disappointing when he was in the team, it's not like Harris disgraced himself, and there's something bigger at play with trying to ease Pucovski into the team and making him feel comfortable about it.

Christ, if there were another Victorian worthy of selection (Pattinson?) I'd probably give them an extra check in the "pro" column just to provide as much support as possible to Pucovski, cos his success is one of the ultimate goals going forward.
