So it seems form in the shield does not count any more,back to the days of when it was harder to get out of the test team then get in.A disgrace.

Reminds me of Mark Taylor back in the 90s.....was struggling only the captaincy was keeping him in the team...then came out against the poms and got a hundred.....hopefully Burns can find some form and score some runs come thurs
Very happy though that Cam Green will make his debut the guy is a jet fingers crossed he goes well

You've got a like for like (in playing style) replacement for Warner in Harris, who has been scoring massively in Sheffield shield level, and is the in form batsman in the second level.
Instead they move Wade to open (lol wtf) and retain burns (who didn't reach double figures in 4 innings against India a, and has an average of 11 from 5 innings in the shield) so that they can insert their new favourite in green.
Burns must have some serious dirt on someone.

It’s only 3-4 games. I’d back Burns turning it around rather than Harris who hasn’t even got a hundred at this level. Burns scores hundreds

Stop living in the past,Glen Maxwell has scored 100,s at this level and you do not even rate him. BUT back on the subject,look at those figures.
This season Harris 3 inn,Av. 118.33,355 runs in the shield.V India 4 inn Av.30.3 91 runs This season Burns 5 inn Av. 11.40, 57 runs in the shield, V India 4 inn Av 1.25 5 runs.

Harris was brought in as a reserve player nothing has changed. He’s not suddenly going to go over an incumbent.

I do like the idea that we left Harris out because we can't have 2 left handers at the top of the order (ignore Hayden/Langer, Warner/Rogers, etc) and our number 1 opener is a guy who has never opened before.

I think Chris Rodgers coaching Victoria could be very beneficial for Marcus Harris.What worries me is these players on the borderline of test selection have got no cricket to play other then this T20 crap.They would be better going back and playing with their local clubs on a Saturday afternoon and get some practice out in the middle.

Ashwin does bowl well to lefties though not that I’m confident Burns gets through to there but then again I’m not confident in Harris either

So did Maxwell in 2017 but that did not help him and what about Kurtis Pattinson,last test a ton.It seems shield form means little this season.

Patterson was unlucky but he’s barely got a run since. Maxwell despite how often you say it wasn’t consistent enough and no we don’t care what other things he brings he’s there to bat who gives a flying what else he brings.
Harris was brought in as a reserve bat to cover injury he’s doing that not sure why everyone is so shocked

Why would you doubt Harris would be there? He looked perfectly comfortable against pace against India. In the first game he got through the new ball no worries both times. In the second game he was clearly the most composed of our top order before edging one to slip in really tough batting conditions. In the second innings he was out leg glancing one of the middle of the bat to leg slip.
Sure he's questionable against good spin and maybe the leg slip is a plan that might work against him but he looked our best player against the new ball by a country mile. Burns (and to be fair Pucovski as well) looked like getting out at any moment against them. Harris is clearly our best performed opener at shield level over the past few years, easily our best performed opener in the warmup games and they're leaving him out for Burns who can't make a run and had the lowest average of our top 7 last summer and a guy who has never opened in his life. He should be utterly disgusted by the selection.

Given the manner that he has been dropped and recalled in his test journey so far, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.
Green has earned his chance. But apart from that, I agree. Harris probably wouldn't score massively but at least he'd score. Wade being moved up is more out of necessity than anything else I'd imagine. Better him than Burns.
Honestly, I think Burns playing could end his career permanently. The hit on his confidence from his current form and almost certainly failing twice in the first test cannot be understated.

Joe Burns selection is probably the worst decision ever made by a Australian selection panel.
The guys so low on form and confidence that it’s not even helping him out by playing him, in all likelihood it’s only going to make his confidence drop again.
