Also prefer Marsh or Khawaja or even both as our openers. Proven experience needed against a top test team. The time to experiment is when against lower nations or in dead rubbers. Wade is a good opener in white ball cricket, not sure about test cricket with the moving ball, his tendency to play and think he is more a counterattacking middle order batsman.
My ideal XI:

Khawaja
Marsh
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Wade
Paine
Cummins
Pattinson
Lyon
Hazlewood

With Burns and Wade opening the batting, l'm tipping Australia 2/10 to 20, after the first 5 to 10 overs of the innings, in the daytime. If Australia bats under lights, in the last 60 to 90 mins of the days play, we will be 2/0.
Burns has no idea what the ball is doing at the moment, and is seeing it like a marble, whilst Wade, never batted higher than 5, is expected to face Bumrah, Shami and Yadav when the ball is swinging and doing anything and everything under lights.....🤔🤔

I get the thought process in trying to keep the team as stable as possible and with Wade already having to move, and Green coming in, perhaps they thought that more changes would be counterproductive.

If Burns was averaging 20-30 or so I could accept that. But the bloke is averaging single figures in the shield on top of 5 runs in 4 innings against the blokes we’re playing tomorrow. That is diabolical.. not just out of form, that’s nearly never getting picked again territory.

It’s more likely that this will finish him off for good than help in any way. He’s going to come out tomorrow with zero confidence, get another <10 score and there will be no way back from that confidence hit at this stage of his career with Pucovski pushing hard.

If that's actually your rationale then you should be on Shaun Marsh's bandwagon with his 6 Test tons.

The hilarious part about it is Marshs hundreds were probably more recent and Burns centuries all those years ago have come against Sri Lanka , West Indies and NZ and that’s a sign he’ll make runs against India? Yet Harris who was Australia’s best batsman against India just 2 years ago would be eaten alive by India’s bowlers? Whilst Burns averaged 1 against their second stringers

The selectors are so hopelessly biased it's not even funny.

You've got a like for like (in playing style) replacement for Warner in Harris, who has been scoring massively in Sheffield shield level, and is the in form batsman in the second level.

Instead they move Wade to open (lol wtf) and retain burns (who didn't reach double figures in 4 innings against India a, and has an average of 11 from 5 innings in the shield) so that they can insert their new favourite in green.

Burns must have some serious dirt on someone.
Harris has got past 50 twice this season.

And they came in games where the scores were 18/1,092 and 21/1,148.

With the early mail suggesting Burns a certain starter, it could be a masterstroke, or a case of not respecting the "greatness" of India's bowling lineup.
If Burns scores more than single figures this test, it suggests to me that test match bowlers are of a lower standard than state level bowlers IMO.
I have to emphasise that India cannot allow Burns to score double figures, as it will bring great shame to a proud nation!

I don’t see Wade’s move to opening as a stepping stone to being out of the team comfort the next test as several posters seem to. Warner will be back soon but there’s been little news on Pucovski and given the sheer volume of concussions he’s had, I don’t see him as close to a sure thing to play this series. Given it seemed to be between Harris and Burns for this test, I’d say Wade could survive Warner’s return and open with him (if he does ok).

I also don’t see it as him giving up his middle order spot for Green. I’d prefer we play Green at six over Wade, but given Langer’s adamance that Green wouldn’t replace Wade or Head, I don’t see it as a given that the number six role is now Green’s for good.

Prepare yourself Wade is in the gun....They will not drop Green after one test.. and so they shouldn't plus the MCG flatter wicket they want the allrounder

and I as i have already alluded to they prefer the right hand left opening partnership, its the only reason I can see why burns is playing

He's got past 50 twice in 3 innings. And he got 45 in the other one. And he was clearly our most competent facing the new ball against the Indians.

And let's not pretend pitches where Michael Neser tons up while Queensland get 520 or where they get 5d/496 with 3 players getting tons are exactly mine fields. Burns couldn't get past 10 in either of those innings.

It doesn’t bother me either way if Wade plays. He’s a solid battler who averages in the low 30s. As I said, I’d prefer Green to play over him. Langer clearly likes him though, and there are multiple ways he stays in the team.

Always thought Shaun Marsh deserved more opportunities...

Twice in seven fist-class innings.

I'm not defending Burns, by the way.

Apparently Cameron Green is a swashbuckling batsmen akin to Kevin Pietersen!? His batting highlights on youtube don't really match that description - let's hope he truly is an all rounder, not just a fast bowler!
