I think this Burns kid has potential, he’s hitting it well in the BBL 😍

God if he got picked he probably would have made a century and then would have him on his screens for the next 5 years struggling as always :tearsofjoy:

But seriously why doesn't Burns bat in the middle order instead for QLD and AUS. I remember making a 60 odd of like 40 balls in a test match and he was just smoking them.

Pope has been the victim of hype and expectation after his WC performance. Whilst he's picking up some wickets, he's currently very expensive, averaging 72.5 with the ball and needs to work on consistency of his control. His wickets in the England match were largely the same type of delivery. There's still a lot of time for him but Swepson is miles ahead of him right now.

Also doesn't have a stock ball. Never a good thing when your variation is the only one that turns usually.

He will be 36 by then, he seems like the kind of player that would play for as long as he could but I think he might be done by then.

No reason he can't play till he is 38-39. This is where I think the year off and not captaining helps, it's given him a mental break if nothing else.

We don't have a good option for the last batting spot. Maxwell has talent coming out of his proverbial. Maybe we just have to pick on that? And while he hasn't played FC cricket in a while his record is decent with an average around 40.

He'd throw his wicket away a bit but I'd back him to make more runs than the alternatives, perhaps bar Head who I think needs to work on his technique before he can be considered again. If we wanted Maxwell at 7 I'd be tempted to move Paine on and bring Carey in at 6. I think he's got the tools to be a very capable Test player.

We could really use Maxwell's fielding prowess too. Look at the impact Jadeja has on India in that respect.

I like maxwell but i think his papers are stamped.

In the short term i think it will be wade or head as we lack other options.

I think paine hangs on til the ashes to give us time to find other leadership options then he retires and carey or inglis (phillipe if you want to be really brave) come in.

David Warner since Sandpapergate:

2, 8, 3 , 5, 61, 0, 0, 0, 5, 11, 154, 335*, 43, 19, 41, 38, 45, 111*, 5, 13, 1

Second half of November 2019: 489 runs, dismissed once
Everything else: 411 runs at 22.83

Still better than playing Harris

Wouldn’t be completely against Maddinson and I’m far from his biggest fan.

How many other Aussie openers scored century during that time??

Tour to SA should be something like:

Maxwell would have made an ideal captain if they kept him in the side and he consolidated his position but never given the chance to remain in the side after the Indian series a couple of seasons back.Lets see how he goes tonight in the BBC game after 2 poor dismissals in the last 2 games.BUT sadly we should not be judging future test players on BBC form.

Good side.

Pattinson won’t play though. We all know it.

I’d rather Green at 5 too.

What are the grounds for whiteman?

What are the grounds for whiteman?
2 centuries and a 50 opening for WA in the Shield so far this year. We don't exactly have a lot of openers knocking on the door of selection and, after Harris failing again, he's our best option.

That's probably still averaging more than the other openers during that time tbf.

I'd be worried about a 28 year old averaging 35 in FC cricket reverting to the mean.

The thing is though how long has Whiteman consistently proven he can open the batting for WA.

Yes he made 2 centuries and a 50 this season but what are his stats outside this season from opening the batting.
