If scuttlebutt is worth anything apparently Renshaw is a well rounded young man who doesn't share the brown nosed dwarf's live and die for the baggy green attitude.
Or maybe he is a coaster that doesn't work anywhere hard enough and more importantly hasn't performed.

Langer is an extremely driven, intelligent, hard working and of course incredibly successful individual. No wonder you wouldn't like him.

He doesn’t strike me as particularly intelligent.

Not sure I would agree with all of that but even if he is all those things, it doesn't make him a good coach. There is clearly something missing. I don't base that on results but just the way we are playing.

I question if Langer can actually improve players, to me out of form players get dropped and don't seem to be able to find form within the team. Smith excluded. The Coaches are not able to work with the batsman to fix their faults.

No idea what today or this series does for Matty Wade if i'm honest.

cons:
Thrown his wicket away horribly 3 times this series.
Age.
Only averages 30 at test level over 36 matches.
No idea when Australias next test match is going to be (Considering Covid)

Pros:
5th highest run scorer of the series. 3rd highest for Australia.
Has now made contributions in his career at 1, 5, 6 and 7 so can essentially be called on to play anywhere.
We haven't lost a test series since he returned to the side in 2019.
Who else is banging the door down to replace him?

He will stay for the ashes (at least in the squad if not the 11) as he is decent plus can be a backup keeper on an overseas tour. Long term we need to move past him.

Don’t agree with Wade as a back up keeper on an overseas tour tbh.

The only argument I can see for not including Paine’s long term replacement in an overseas test squad is if the Sheffield Shield is on at the same time. This is especially important if the selectors think Carey is the man, as most years he doesn’t get the opportunity to play Shield cricket.

If Carey is the future then expect plenty more dropped catches. Pant is a better keeper

I'm the biggest Wade fan gong around. I'm happy for him to stay in the squad because I think he offers something nobody else can right now.

I'm just very confused about exactly where he is at following this series in the eyes of the selectors/general public.

Same but he has to repay our faith at some stage, he's pissed away a couple of golden opportunities in this series to do that and go big.

Absolutely. Then on the flip side you could argue that 4 scores above 30 in a low scoring test series playing in different positions is a consistent enough output. It's a hard one to defend on the surface as a Wadey fan but statistically you could just say he's the 5th highest run scorer currently and be done with it.

He looks in decent form so needs to cash in, otherwise if that drops off goodbye career.

Arguably has looked as solid as any of our bats which makes his soft outs even worse.
He is on a knife edge but think he survives to the SA tour.

Head is next in line and while talented has technique flaws along with 'soft out syndrome' so at this stage he isnt solving our issues.

Wade getting a game as a specialist bat is indicative of our shallow batting depth unfortunately .

Wade goes on the plane if only because he can be the "back-up" keeper, even though he hasn't kept in FC cricket for 2-3 years

And he's still better.

Lol, no he isn’t. Pant is truly terrible.

Carey makes a few mistakes and he’s a dud. Tim Paine has done the same yet is still seen as a gun keeper.

Don’t get me wrong Paine is a better gloveman and I can see Inglis replacing Carey easy enough but Carey isn’t that bad with the gloves - certainly not as bad as the popular opinion atm.

I've watched him plenty at FC level. He isn't a good keeper. A good bat, absolutely, but the only regular keeper worse than him at FC level is Jimmy Peirson.

When the Shield resumes, South Australia should let Neilsen keep ahead of him. They won't, but they should.

Was a specialist keeper in all formats for 10+ years. Still more than capable of doing the job in a test match if required.

Agreed.

This is why I'd prefer Wade over Head for the short term.

Both get starts. Both get out cheaply.

But Wade has more *grit* or *tough* innings successes to his name, has shown versatility in the order, and as much as we shouldn't pick someone based on a worse case scenario - if Paine was injured in a match or series Wade can do the job very short-term.

I wouldn't think this stays longer than 12 months though, Head should have some Shield work to his name by then and have been able to show he has worked on his flaws as a long term option.

Please elaborate (at test level? state level? park cricket?)

Pant is a truly horrible gloveman.

I never said Carey was a quality gloveman, only that I thought Pant was one of the worst test gloveman I’ve ever seen and that Carey was better than him easily.

I think he is towards the end. But his utility value (can bat anywhere in the order and can keep) will get him in the ashes squad, plus we dont have stacks of batsmen putting up the numbers at shield level to take his spot. But once someone does then he will be phased out i think.

Paine wasnt regularly keeping at FC level either until Wade gave up the gloves and he slotted back in fine as a keeper..so Wade could do the same short term if needed.

Bull shit.
Carey has become a gun keeper the past two years. People think that ha had such a poor World Cup he must be a poor keeper. The World Cup was not the norm for him. Paine is keeping his seat warm for him.
